Found on Alaska Beach
Looking to ID these. Google searches lead me to believe they are antique cable insulators made from perhaps porcelain, with glass insides.
AI says this: These are vintage undersea communication cable insulators, likely dating back to the early 20th century (circa 1900–1904).
These pieces are remnants of the early telegraph era in Alaska—possibly the Washington-Alaska Military Cable and Telegraph System (WAMCATS)—which was the primary communication link between Alaska and the lower 48 states during the pioneer era.
I have one in tact and one that one of my curious children split in half. These were found on two different Alaska beaches, both found this year.
Thank you.
