Nurse Practitioner vs MD?

I was wondering if anyone here sees an APRN/ nurse practitioner as their primary care provider vs an MD or DO. I’m moving states soon and will need new medical care. I’ve been on a GLP-1 for just over two months and realize it’s probably a lifelong drug for me. Just curious if there is any care NPs can’t provide, especially for people on this class of drugs, and how your experiences were. Thanks!

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who contributes here. I was diagnosed with T2D in 2024 and have been working with an anti-diet RD since then, as well as taking metformin for years. I had done so much work on intuitive eating, additive nutrition, movement for mental health and strength, that the whole GLP-1 conversation felt like something I needed to stay away from entirely. When my new doctor asked if I had considered this class of drugs, I was sure she just saw me as fat (I am!) and I had to reiterate that I was ALL DONE spending my life trying to be smaller. Reading here allowed me to hold two truths at once: a GLP-1 could be incredibly beneficial for me, and I could use it without chasing weight loss, even if that might be a result.

I’ve used Wegovy for 6 weeks, switching to Zepbound soon, and my experience has been incredible. My last A1C was 6.8 and my CGM is estimating it at 6.1 currently. Reduction in food noise feels like a miracle I didn’t know was possible. Reading here has allowed me to navigate both the physical and mental challenges successfully and I’m so grateful.

By the way, my RD is through Diabetes Digital and I recommend them so highly. I pay nothing through my insurance, it’s virtual visits, and it’s been an incredible resource for me.

Thank you all— I’m mostly a lurker on Reddit, but this feels like a very safe space to open up a little bit. :)
