I got sick of "we should catch up soon" never turning into anything, so I built an app for it

Long-time lurker, first time posting something I made.

Every group chat I'm in has the same cycle: someone says we should do something, everyone agrees, three weeks pass, nothing happens. We are all just busy lately right?

It's just that no one knows when anyone else is free, and no one wants to be the person chasing five people's calendars.

So I spent the last year of nights and weekends building Keen. The idea is dead simple: you tap the nights you're keen to go out (takes about 10 seconds), your mates do the same, and when there's an overlap the app tells you: "You, Sam and Kate are all free Friday. Ball Park Music is on at the Corner." One tap turns it into a plan with a group chat.

A few things I was stubborn about:

  • No spam. You get at most a couple of notifications a week
  • It pulls in what's actually on in Melbourne every night, from gigs to markets to comedy.

It's free, and I'm a solo founder doing this after work, so I'd love brutal feedback from actual Melburnians.

What would make you and your mates actually use something like this?

It's called Keen: keen.social
