CLIE NX60+TCPMP+FLAC success

This is a follow on thread to my initial thread about using my old Clie NX60 as a music player for uncompressed lossless FLAC files:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Palm/comments/1s2mlux/sony_clie_as_a_music_player_questions_file_types/
I installed TCPMP 0.72RC1 with the MCA (modern clie audio plugin):

and then the FLAC plugin

I'll address file size and bluetooth in a later thread, but did have success in FLAC playback, WITH the exception of the last few seconds of a song being cutoff. I'll take that as a win for now.

Just wondering if people have any solution to the cutoff issue, such as being able to 'tune' TCPMP cache settings to load the succeeding file quicker? Not a big deal as I use this for casual listening, that might change if I am able to use a bluetooth headset away from home.

Also TCPMP really doesn't have a 'skin' like audio players since it is designed for video. Is there a way to skin the UI display or at least show the playlist?

FWIW, I tried to install Core player but it throws error codes so I can't even register it or check if it natively plays FLAC files.

Clie Deleting Read Only file from Internal Memory?

I have a file that I want to delete in the internal memory of my NX60, but when I select and delete, it says it is read only and will not delete.

Is there a quick and easy way to do this?

Hack to get Sony PEGA-MSB1 Bluetooth Memory Stick working on OS5 Devices?

I seem to recall that there was a hack to get the PEGA-MSB1 Bluetooth Memory Stick working on Palm OS5 devices.

Does anyone recall what it was?

I still have the installation CD for the device but those drivers won't work. All the archived drivers on https://sonyclie.org/ and other locations that I found are also only for OS4 devices.

Any advantage of Coreplayer over TCPMP for FLAC playback?

I found on PalmDB.net that TCPMP can have a plugin for FLAC support. Just about all my old CD's are scanned in FLAC format.
Just wondering if Coreplayer has native FLAC playback capability or even worth the bother of installing it over TCPMP?

NX60/70 Audio Adapter driver?

Last night I got my NX60 working again. I can play MP3's through the included music player (and even got my KB100 keyboard and GC10 game controllers functional!).
However, I could not get the audio adaptor (see left side of photo) working that was included with the NX60 when I purchased it.

I think I am missing the PRC file or whatever file is the driver.
Can anyone tell me what the file is and where I can get it?

I tried to load PEGA-SA10 or PEGA-SA500 audio adapters but Win10 won't let me load the .exe files since they are too old....those controllers are for older CLIE's anyway.

I can't find any documentation on the audio controller. Can anyone help?

New battery for NX60

The change was simple, some pointers:

  • The battery door has a tiny phillips screw, but the battery won't fit through the door, don't bother removing the door, but you MUST remove the phillips screw to get the rear housing off
  • Remove the four 5-point star screws instead, the back housing comes right off
  • fwiw, IKEA sells a small tool kit that has the correct tool bit https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/trixig-25-piece-precision-screwdriver-set-30568091/ The drive bits are magnetic, so that helps in not losing the little screws.
  • Replacement battery off ebay is 1400mA, +200mA more than stock 1200mA
  • Cleaned up the grunge in the stylus slot while you are in there
  • The connector is snug, I needed a tweezers to get it unplugged. The orientation is that the red wire is toward the left (the black wire is closest to the edge of housing)

When you connect the new battery, the Clie turns on right away, just fyi.

The whole operation takes 5 minutes.

Gonna be my music player & old games!

Is my PC recognizing two banks of RAM?

Here is the output from sudo dmidecode --type 17:

How to format external 2TB M.2 SSD to use as a media?

I purchased an external SSD enclosure (ASUS Cobble) & I have a 2TB M.2 SSD installed inside it. It will connect to my Linux Mint pc with a USB C 3.0 connection.

I want to put my music & movies (makemkv files) on it, & use my pc to play them in Kodi. Maybe also store photos.

Which formatting should I use? I heard FAT has limits on partition size & that would not work(?) with large mkv backups of my UHD/4k films that run about 60gb in size. I would rather just have 1 big partition on the ssd.

I also don't want to give up connecting to other devices like a Win10 os, or other devices like my Lumix camera. So if there is a format which works both w/Linux & Win, that would be great.

Any advice is appreciated on which formatting to use, & if there are any tutorials on how to format the ssd.

Thanks kw

Just wondering if people can advise on the workflow for older DVD's.
I want to get my older DVD's onto a SSD/NAS so that I can play them in Kodi (on Linux Mint fresh install).

I was able to create and play ISO's without much trouble by using the MakeMKV 'Backup' feature, and then I could play them like a virtual DVD by 'mounting' them and viewing in VLC (will check Kodi functionality later).

I did not use the Decrypt function, as it seems that these DVD's are not encrypted.

I would then like to take those ISO's and create MKV files from those ISO's and preserve/retain the menu structures (ie, open the singular MKV file and have the DVD graphical menu interface open up).

Is there a trick to that? I heard that one should 'mount' the ISO before converting to MKV in MakeMKV software. Is that mandatory?

Should I 'decrypt' when creating an ISO to do the conversion? Why is that required? Will the menus and extra features be retained when that happens?

If that makes it easier to play the 'virtual DVD' in Kodi, so much the better.

Lastly, not a priority, but if I then wanted to backup multiple DVD's onto an MDisc, I assume you can't put multiple ISO's on one disc, but you can put multiple MKV's onto an MDisc. I have the originals so I am wondering more about the feasibility than actually doing this.

Thanks
