GoSkippy increased my car insurance quote by over £400 in 48 hours after telling me to "wait for the renewal email" - complete bait-and-switch!

Hi all, just thought I'd vent about my awful experience with GoSkippy Insurance regarding their price increases and also warn others who may go with them.

My car insurance renews on 27/10/2026, and here's what happened:

2 Days Ago: I logged onto GoSkippy's site and pulled up a quote for my renewal. It came out to £1,545, and I took a screenshot of the quote plus the quote reference number. I contacted GoSkippy's customer service regarding the quote. They said that all looked good and that I simply needed to wait for their renewal invite email to come through in a couple of days, I said okay, we are still in the 26-21 window so that should be fine

Today, I received their renewal invite email, but to my shock, the quote in the email had gone up to £1,970! This is an increase of £425 in 48 hours, same driver, same car and same coverage!

Then they have the nerve to call me couple of hours after, saying that I didn't reply for the renewal! I told the agent the story and how the situation is an absolute mockery and highly unprofessional, he replied that he can offer a discount, then kept me on the phone for couple of minutes "okay sir, we can offer you 50-pound discount" I thanked him and went for another company.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue with GoSkippy or alternate brokers prior to a policy renewal date? Any suggestions on how to deal with formal complaints against them? is this kind of price manipulation legal?!
