Drag your buddies out of the way so they don't get mortared! Stop the bleeding, drag them to safety, and then heal.
The first thing I did when I logged in 0.4.5 (see post body)
I wrote this post when they announced the changes to red circles:
So when I logged in to 0.4.5 the very first thing I did was wait for a Conflict Zone to appear and placed a mortar in the center. And I got a kill on the first try.
If that's not confirmation that the system needs adjustment I don't know what is!
The upcoming conflict zone system has a major flaw.
I'm hoping this gets some traction so the developers can address it before release. Otherwise we'll be waiting for another patch cycle to get it fixed (or longer).
Here's how conflict zones work right now:
The center of the conflict zone circle is placed directly between the player shooting and the player being shot.
This means that you can identify the precise position of the shooter and the person being shot as long as you know the position of one. In this clip I'm using that information to find a player and shoot them. Notice that when I take the shot they are almost exactly in the direction of my marker.
Here's how conflict zones will work in the next patch:
The center of the conflict zone circle is placed around the "victim".

Why this is a problem:
Now every time I see a conflict zone appear (even if it's the other factions fighting) I can place a mortar directly in the center. If it's a highly contested area I can place mortars around the center as well.
There's a good chance that I'll get a kill because the player at the center is likely downed and the shooter is likely looting them. Or the victim in the center won the fight but needs to heal.
EDIT: Mortars aren't the only issue. It's just an example. If two other factions are fighting I can identify the person being shot at just by the circles and safely 3rd party them from range. Spotting people is difficult in this game so this is a huge disadvantage to the person being shot at.
Additionally:
If conflict zones continue to appear on suppression (not a kill) then you can randomly fire into an area to identify the precise location of a player. If you're confident someone is in an area just shoot the bushes and wait for a conflict zone to appear.
How to get accused of cheating in 4 easy steps...
Step 1: Kill an enemy PMC
Step 2: Instead of looting their gun, put a tracker on it
Step 3: Let them loot their old body
Step 4: Know their position at all times
