225hr player's thoughts on Gray Zone Warfare

Hello Redditoids.

Last night I hit 225 hours on Gray Zone Warfare. Even though I'm a new player, I think that's enough time spent playing the game to provide some thoughts and feedback, so here we go.

Coming out of the gate strong here but Gray Zone Warfare is one of the best and most addictive shooters I've ever played. I have been playing the guitar for over two decades and I haven't played in like a solid month because of this game. There's a lot going for it and for a game in its alpha / early access phase, there isn't a lot going against it that wouldn't be ironed out by the time it enters beta and is subsequently released officially.

I'll run through my list of feedback/points of contention:

  • Weapon physics is great - you can feel when a weapon has more or less muzzle velocity. The only thing I'm kinda sad about is how you don't have to account for bullet drop basically ever.
  • Weapon building is amazing. Possibly the most realistic part of the game, to the extent that I basically just spend all my money building different variations of M4's and AK's. We just need more options in terms of finishes for weapon parts, as well as bipods and under-barrel grenade launchers.
  • I think arm fatigue needs detuning, because right now it feels a little bit exaggerated...but we also need more mechanics/animations for using cover to rest our weapons on, as it feels mega lame walking up to a tree or a concrete block and having your guy just lower his weapon. So I wouldn't mind the arm fatigue if we could utilise cover more.
  • Tasks are a strong feature, but please do away with losing tasks on death - it doesn't add to the game in any way.
  • Vendor ranks are a very cool way to incentivise completing tasks and playing the game in general, but I think we need either more sources for vendor XP, or they should require less XP to level up, as a few people I know who play the game and like it feel that the game doesn't respect our time enough. And as someone who has everyone except Artisan and Banshee up to rank 4, I agree - because ranking those last two up is mega lame on account of the sheer amount of time it takes, and the only reason I have the rest at rank 4 is because I have the time right now.
  • And lucky last...the loot issue. I don't think I need to say much about it but from what I understand the devs are working on private servers, which my fingers are tightly crossed for. If we got private servers, me and my bros would LIVE in this game.

Also, here are a few guns that are missing from the game:

  • Vector .45 ACP & 9mm variants
  • FN SCAR-L / FN SCAR-H
  • Knight's Armament SR-25 & M-110
  • CheyTac Intervention (I know, I know...but come on it would be cool)
  • Accuracy International AWM variants e.g. L115A3 etc.
  • SVU Dragunov
  • SV-98
  • M40A5
  • FAMAS G2
  • H&K G36C
  • H&K 416 & 417
  • SPAS-12
  • SAIGA 12
  • Some kind of triple-barrel shotgun (lmao)
  • FN P90
  • AC-AR

What build will give me this accuracy?

Been having a go a building guns but I still get absolutely domed and struggle to hit people sprinting or when they are over 150m away with burst fire.

I got zapped by over 10 rounds in the same point of aim and just want to know how I can “git gud” and what gun build I should use?

Thanks everyone - every step matters

Is adding more complicated tool usage feasable?

Hi there. I'm a relatively newer player and in a couple missions in both PVP and PVE I've found myself in a tactical situation where more advanced use of tools would have allowed better tactics. Is adding items like wire cutters (for fences and barbed wire) or tin snips (for the corrogated walls) a feasible future mechanic? It just feels odd walking around with thousands of dollars of gear but tactical decisions are limited by a 10 dollar piece of chain link fence.

M1 (Ace of heart) and now ?

In case someone wanted to see the stats, though what should we do with it ? It’s 1.430kg, NIJ I (not surprising though), and cherry on top, it’s not an apparel so once destroyed, wiped, or lost, it’s a gone Nam drip.

Is it just me or are mortars way to weak?

i have been experimenting with mortars recently and launched about 12 + of them at ai enemies just to test how they react.

first of it seams like there is no fragmentation damage and 0 damage happens if the target is more then 10M away from it it really feels like a frag granade on a timer.

and the mortar going off seams to tip of the ai to my exact location even when im at quiet a far distance from them.

i know it is kind of a gimic but it would be nice if they actually had some decent fragmentation damage at a decent range.

If Tiger bay is an urban setting for Lamang..it needs more stores opened in the mall, a hospital, a movie theater, and old blocks need to be expanded.

I legit love this game and its definitely punching above its weight class with every update, of course everyone's judging it based on other established titles but with so little they have in the game for players to use; like not even having semi auto shotguns; or even more notable firearms like the FN Scar.

They've made something that's fun and tense all at once.

I wished it used up more land like east of sawmill or even much of the land near tiger bay..it's just so empty.

It's understandable that they're going for like a jungle warfare style game play but like the swamp section of the map I hardly fought in and I play this shit every day.

I think more of an expansion on the big 3 (TB, FN, MS) but more for hunters, sawmill, and PL airfield. Theres just so much open land there. Before they took off the suggestion channel for discord people were bitching for more urban warfare too.

Hell I suggest modeling the urban warfare in this game after the fall of Saigon. If they're going for a "different era, same hell" kind of angle.

Game is great with what it's got now but it can be even better. I'm sure they're tracking..but it's also a road to get there. Here's to hoping for the best for GZW.

I lost my bag :/

Was trying to throw it down from the top of the ledge and make my way down after it, but it got stuck on the tree 😭

u/DylanH121 — 9 hours ago

Credit to the Devs & support team

Some random tech clash on my PC got flagged as a mouse issue by the GZW anticheat and I got an unwarranted 90 day ban.

The team overturned this within 72 of my submitting an appeal.

I continue to be impressed with the Devs commitment to their product and community. Top work!

performnce

I have an RTX 4090. I play at 4K on max settings:

Native 4K – ~42–45 FPS

DLSS 4.5 quality – ~60–65 FPS

DLSS Frame Generation 2× – >100 FPS pluss on average

I’m asking because I’ve found no benchmarks and wonder how my performance stacks up against other 4090 owners. Since some games on Linux lose a bit of performance in DirectX 12 on Nvidia, I’d like to know if that’s the case for me in this game.

i have an r9 7900 cpu

TLDR: Same character in PVE and PVP is killing this game

Can someone explain to me why the character is shared between modes? It completely kills the whole point of PvP. PvP is supposed to mean risking your gear, fierce competition for quest locations, and competition over spots where you can find high value loot. And this game has none of that. Why would you ever choose risk when you can just go PvE and knock out your quests in complete safety, music playing, a show running on your second monitor, whatever. Same deal with money and gear, dying in PvP doesn't sting at all, honestly you just don't care. You die, no big deal, you hop into PvE and boom, you've got your money and loot back.

Right now it feels to me like this: you boot up Minecraft, turn on survival or hardcore mode, create a world, immediately switch yourself to creative, build a base, stuff your chests full of resources, then flip survival mode back on. What's even the point at that point? I feel like a lot of people don't get that gameplay doesn't start once you have everything, it ends. Grinding out max level traders, money, and a stash full of loot IS the gameplay.

There's almost no organic PvP in this game, the kind where you run into someone in some godforsaken village on the edge of the map while doing a quest. Best case scenario you'll spot someone at the hotel, the military base, or Tiger Bay, but that'll be a player who did all their prep in PvE and came to PvP just to shoot other players, not to actually develop their character.

It would be so much more interesting if people were out doing quests, looting, farming money, or hunting for something they need, and you, being in that exact same boat, ran into an enemy and after killing them could find the quest item you needed on their body, or just a backpack stuffed with loot.

The saddest part is I could count on one hand, over 200 hours of playtime, how many times I've killed a player and found a loot filled backpack on them. 99% of the time it's just someone who came for PvP and has nothing but a weapon, ammo, and a bit of meds. Sometimes they've already killed someone else and have one extra rifle in their bag, that's it.

I really hope the devs end up separating PvP and PvE characters.

Looting etiquette (AITA?)

If you didn't clear it (a loot zone/room/building), you don't get to loot it. If I am clearing it and you come in to help, you get to loot it. If I cleared it alone and you sprint in while i was healing, tailgated me into a lock room then screw you.

Titanium skulls

Tanked 2x 9mm Libra snails, it took the third round to kill him. I shot twice, he sway, turn and shoot at me, then 1 more tap then he go down.

Ground Zero is... spooky

i took the mission Burans AK-74N today. I forayed into a small part of ground zero before finishing the missions.

I don't know what Madfinger Games has planned, but they could easily make a horror shooter with some of the sounds I heard while being out there.

Something is brewing in Ground Zero, and I am scared to find out what.

Some guns I’d like to see in the near future

One of these is from my personal collection. I’ll let you guess.

But yea instead of AK and AR variants to death, service weapons from other countries would be an amazing addition

Do mouse/keyboard/headset driver software (e.g. Razer Synapse) increase the risk of anti-cheat bans?

Hi everyone,

I have a question that’s been on my mind for a while.

Many gaming peripherals nowadays come with companion software, such as:

  • Razer Synapse
  • Logitech G HUB
  • SteelSeries GG
  • Corsair iCUE
  • ASUS Armoury Crate
  • HyperX NGENUITY
  • Wootility, etc.

These applications often install background services and drivers, and some of them can:

  • Remap keys or buttons
  • Create macros
  • Control RGB lighting
  • Adjust DPI or audio settings
  • Integrate with games

I’m wondering whether simply having these programs installed (without using any cheating features or macros) could trigger anti-cheat systems like Vanguard, Easy Anti-Cheat, BattlEye, FACEIT AC, or similar.

More specifically:

  • Has anyone ever been flagged or banned just because one of these peripheral drivers was installed?
  • Do anti-cheat systems distinguish between legitimate vendor software and suspicious driver-level software?
  • Is it generally recommended to close these applications before launching competitive games, or is it completely unnecessary?
  • Are there any well-known peripheral software packages that have caused compatibility or anti-cheat issues in the past?

I’m trying to keep my system as clean as possible while avoiding false positives, so I’d appreciate hearing about both official information and real-world experiences.

Thanks!

How on earth do I expand my stash?

I'm level 15 right now, and my stash is so full I can barely fit magazines and new ammo inside of it. Like it's actually miserable, and I can't loot anything, I don't have space for enough stuff to have two different kits/loadouts.

For the love of god is there a way to expand it? I'm suffering
