2013 Lexus RX350 needs a replacement water pump
Our RX350 with124,000 miles recently developed a rattling noise and I surmised it may be the water pump.
I retired a couple years ago and have been watching YouTube videos to DIY a lot of my own services. I have successfully done oil changes, spark plugs, air filters (cabin and engine), PCV valve, transmission "drain and fill", and Tire Pressure monitoring system (TPMS) sensors myself on this Lexus. It currently has 124,000 miles.
I have watched a few videos this week on water pump replacement and am a little apprehensive about doing this job myself.
The Lexus Dealership quoted me $1436 for replacement including coolant and labor.
A Local Mechanic that I trust and have used for many years confirmed it was the water pump and quoted me $1200 for replacement pump, all gaskets, coolant, and a replacement serpentine belt (all OEM parts).
Based on what I have done, which would you do and why?
A. Take it to the Lexus Dealer and pay $1436 (and keep old belt)
B. Take it to local mechanic and pay $1200 with new belt and all oem parts.
C. Attempt to do it yourself .
