2025 Ioniq 5 vs 2023 Rav 4 Hybrid
I wanted to post a comparison on here after doing a road trip at different times, same route, with our 2025 Ioniq 5 and 2023 Rav 4 Hybrid.
I charged the EV at Ionna chargers at an average cost of $0.38/kWh Fast Charging (15 minutes). It ended up averaging about 6 miles/$ on the highway.
With the Rav 4, gas costs at the time was $3.90/gallon. It ended up averaging 8 miles/$ on the highway.
My own conclusion:
With the EV at 6 miles/$ on the highway, for it to match the Rav 4, Fast Charging would need to be around $0.28/kWh (assuming $3.90/gallon).
Until then, I think the Ioniq 5 is more suitable for daily commutes to work, rather than road trips. Usually, we're able to charge it at $0.11/kWh slow charging (8 hours), which ends up getting us 30 miles/$ in town.
