This is not me—this is my work only on plus size furisode

So basically, I got someone to model for me yesterday because I wanted to figure some things out with plus size furisode. Namely, I was not too crazy about some of the musubi I was seeing for queen size furisode and limited styling options for obi age and obi jime, so I decided to play around with some ideas. I’ll be revisiting this question when I have some free time in the fall.

Jidai Kitsuke Practice in Nara

I went to Nara today to my second kimono school where I practice Maiko, KyoGeiko, and EdoGeisha kimono dressing. I am really out of practice and decided to go there 2-4 times a year to keep up. I did 4 hours of practice and I’m wiped out! Excuse my KyoGeiko mannequin. I didn’t properly fix the hem before taking photos.

Kimono School Outfit…Because I Had Time

I wore a linen kimono which was really cool in this heat. The director saw me and she was pleasantly shocked since I never go to school in kimono anymore.

My sensei was surprised. It’s summer vacation so I can wear kimono. She was not too happy about my obi age or han eri, as they are not in season. My han eri had foundation all over it. :(

I was practicing jisou (dress yourself), so this was easier.

Kimono Workshop

I was asked to do a kimono workshop for a women’s group last weekend. I was ambitious and thought I could do 2 stylings, but I only did one due to all of the questions I was asked. I wanted to show those who are reluctant to try kimono that there are different ways to work kimono into your life. This particular styling was something I thought of while listening to 80s music (Karyn White, Madonna). I was also thinking about my maiko kimono dressing class and put this together. It also happened to work really well with the model’s natural hairstyle.

Hanhaba Obi Stuff

I was bored and decided to just start tying musubi for no real reason, haha.
