thin socks suggestions?

hi all, i was wondering what thin socks you guys use. i’ve tried figure skating songs and i hated it because they were SO thin and the material made me feel like i was sliding around in my boot. i otherwise just use the amazon basics crew socks and they’re pretty thin, but i was wondering if anyone has any recs for something else!

arch pain; when to buy new skates?

hi! been skating (LTS classes) since late march. i go at least 1 hour/wk (2-3 hrs/wk when i have time). i have been getting awful pain in my arches after about 5 min of ice time, and it ends up going away 30-40 min into the session (sometimes!). the pain goes away after i take the boots off. i currently have riedell ruby skates. i’ve tried lacing loose, lacing tight, i have superfeet insoles. i’ve tried stretching before getting on the ice (but maybe not enough). i take NSAIDs 2-3 hours before class to try and reduce any pain/inflammation when skating. i went to the shop at my rink and was fitted there when i originally got my skates, but i really didn’t know what to look for for feel in the boots, so i’m not sure how well i was really fit. (they definitely aren’t a professional fitter.) they were not heat molded when purchased, but i never had any break in pain in the ankles or sides of the feet. the pain is only in the arches of my feet.

i think my feet are on the wider side, but not enough to warrant buying wide shoes. my arches are pretty normal.

i know that arch pain can be expected when first starting out because your muscles need to adjust to the new movement, but how long did that last for you guys? my birthday is coming up, so i was thinking about going to a professional fitter near me and maybe buying jackson skates (i’ve heard they’re better for wider feet), but $300 is a huge investment. have any of you had a similar issue with arch pain? were you able to solve it in your original skates or did you need to just bite the bullet and get a new pair? huge thanks in advance, i know this question is asked frequently!

running program during public skate

so, my rink has all the rules about no jumps, etc, during public skate, but it’s not really enforced and it usually doesn’t cause any problems. i went to a public skate last wednesday and there was a couple and a coach running a full pair program, music blasting from a speaker. i didn’t complain to management because that’s not in my character but i was definitely peeved; i thought it was an unspoken rule to not do full programs during public skate, and then they were giving me glares for trying to continue on my laps around the rink or trying to work on the circle? maybe im still a baby skater (6 months) and don’t understand the unspoken rules of public skate, but it was definitely stressing a lot of people out who were just trying to do a calm public skate.

lost favorite plushie

recently realized i was (very likely) autistic after years of being diagnosed w/ adhd. (lots of things started making sense, lol.) anyway. i take a small plushie with me to work and ive been doing this for over a year. plushie usually rotates. comes out on my desk, back in my bag at the end of the day. on friday i think i lost her, ive torn apart my house and where ive been at my job, asked my housemates, and nothing:( and my memory isn’t good enough to retrace my steps. it feels silly because ive only had this plushie for 1 month, but i got it with my girlfriend when she visited and i immediately felt connected to her. it’s a silly little orange kitty, her face is lopsided, and we named her daphne. her lore is that she likes to be evil and bite toes, so we say she went off on an adventure to go bite everyone’s toes. (she’s currently making her way across asia.)

anyway. it’s silly, but i miss her a lot!!

non-insulated gloves?

hey! i was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for non-insulated gloves, or gloves for people who run warm 😪 my hands tend to run very hot, so most gloves just make me sweat and run way hotter. anyone else have similar issues and/or recommendations for a thin, breathable glove?
