Hello Reddit,

My partner and I are talking about moving to Australia, he is originally from Tasmania and Im an MD, PhD from the university of Copenhagen, Denmark. Here I’m working on becoming a specialist in cardiology but not a specialist yet. If I move to Aus ill have to start over and it will take me 5-7 additional years to become any kind of specialist.
Looking for other opportunities for MDs in aus. Any suggestions for a person who is not registered with AHPRA?

My Australian partner and I have been talking about moving back to Aus. He keeps telling me it’s ‘oh so simple and everything will be good’ but when I look up jobs in Australia, it looks like I have to retake my exams and take IELTs etc.. and then go through residency (😬🫠) again.
I’m an Md from 8yrs ago from Copenhagen with mostly cardiology experience incl PhD in a specific niche area but not a specialist (ie cardiologist).

Has anyone been through a process of moving from DK to Aus and actually functioning there?

If I changed directions and went for rural medicine do I have a chance of becoming a functioning Md in Aus before several years have to pass?
