Another sample from my most recent ongoing series, "Nubilus".
I guess based on the rules, it's OK to link to the larger body of work? https://www.puutela.com/galleries/nubilus

Nikkor Z 50/1.8S vs Voigtlander 50/2 Apo-Lanthar real life differences?
In terms of image quality, are there any real life differences between the two lenses? I guess at f2-2.8 the Apo gives a bit cleaner edges, but anything else? Some magical 3D pop that the Nikkor is missing? Something else that can actually be seen in real photos?
I already have the Nikkor, and I am very happy with its image quality (but haven't compared to "better" ones yet).
Viltrox 26mm is pretty much the perfect "Xpan 45mm" equivalent lens for the Z7/Z7II.
These are just random test images taken 10 mins after getting the brand new lens. Single shot panoramas, composed with the help of the viewfinder grid lines (by ignoring the top and bottom rows). The tree image is f2.8, the other one f7.1. The crops are 100%. Image quality is just superb for actual photography.
Reddit seems to compress / images don't scale correctly or whatever, they look a bit soft when viewed larger. Anyways, the images are tack sharp. They look to me as sharp as any image taken with my 35mm f1.8S.
More of "digital Xpan" experiments. Z7 + 35mm/1.8S.
These images are single frame panoramas. One of the Z7/Z8 viewfinder grid options shows the XPan crop if you ignore the top and bottom grids.
I've been mostly shooting in a 5:4 ratio lately. I've dedicated my Z7II as my “digital XPan.” It feels refreshing to see the world through a different aspect ratio again.
Nikon Z7II + Nikkor Z 35mm f1.8S
EDIT: I titled the post poorly. These images are single-frame panoramas. One of the Z7/Z8 viewfinder grid options shows the XPan crop if you ignore the top and bottom grids. The viewing experience feels almost like the complete opposite of my standard 5:4 ratio.
Nikon Z8 focus point lock issue
Nikon Z8 focus point moves after sleep wake even with focus point lock ON.
It only or mostly happens after standby wake, mostly with a manual lens and MF mode. Sometimes it also happens with Z Nikkor lenses in AF mode. The focus point is already moved when the camera wakes up with no input. I always keep it locked in the middle of the screen, but after the camera wakes up the focus point is somewhere else. If I try to reset it, the camera says "the focus point is locked". I was walking today with camera for 3 hours and this happened maybe 10 times.
Already tried:
-All touchscreen functions disabled
-No buttons assigned to focus point recall or reset
Has anyone seen this or found a fix?
I haven't cared much about photography these past few months, but trees are still my favorite subject.
I have been wondering what is the point of all this is. I'm not doing it for likes, money, or fame. I couldn't care less about any of that.
For the past few months, photography hasn't felt fulfilling. It's not enough that I can shoot exactly what I envision in my head. I'm super happy about that, but things don't feel like they're moving forward.
