Compisite bow failure

Unfortunately did the composite bow not make it, without realizing i made the siyahs too aggressive causing instability and twisted itself to death. Besides that was the bow also way too strong. Measured 80@22 before it deconstructed itself.

The core was torn apart suggesting the glueups held for the most part and bends were good.

This already fixed two issues I had with previous attempts. Next should be much tamer and lighter

First stringing of composite bow

Wanted to make a mongol bow but turned more mughal, need to make a slightly shorter string.

And I dread trying to draw it, it might be too strong

4th Egyptian bow reproduction update

Bows have dried and were strung, even got the draw curves out of them though 1 bow bit the dust.

Just applied birch bark to them all and now they need to sit for a bit before applying shellac.

Max draw length is 22 inches with 47lb drawweight

In search of a specialty ironing tip

I am normally more of a bow maker so this request might sound weird.

For the covering of composite bows I often use birch bark and a while ago I saw someone use a large flexible paddle like tip to press down the bark to basically iron it in place.

My search for such a specialty tip has so far been a absolute failure.

Included an image what I looking for. Feel free to remove it if this isnt allowed.

Mongol conquest WIP update

The core has been shaped and 3 layers of sinew applied and the tips shaped as well.

Planning on covering it in cherry bark for its dark red/brown color

Now I need to wait a long while before I can start the opening process, at least another 2 months from now

Would a Whistle arrowhead require a lathe to make?

For an upcoming kyudo event and my own current Mongol conquest era composite bow build I wanted to make some whistling arrow heads(for each respective culture ofcourse).

Question is whether lathe would be required, as these need to be made of some kind of hard wood in 2 sections to be hollowed out.

The unfortunate reality is that a lathe isnt easy to come by so wanted to explore some alternatives
