Insulation around insert

I have a gas insert in an old wood burning fireplace, and the walls and surrounding area gets ridiculously cold in the winter. I finally pulled it back and the door where the exhaust run seem to be removed, leaving a large gap running up the chimney.

Can I stuff some Rockwool insulation around the intake/exhaust pipes, as well as against the walls surrounding the insert?

My garage door started acting up and will not close. Getting 3 flashes indicating safety beam obstruction. I can close it by holding the wall switch.

Cleaned and checked alignment and all is well.

Checked the voltage right at the back of the unit and I get around 10v between common and beam when the door is closed. If I open it 1", still get 10v. As soon as it gets to 2" and above voltage drops to 0.05.

I checked my other door and it's a consistent 12v.

Common to wall switch is a consistent 5v on both doors with doors up or down.

Any idea why it stops sending power as soon as it opens 2"?
