extra certificates

i’ve been seeing a lot of GKS scholars lately talking about how they submitted 30+ certificates.. it has been worrying me a bit because i don’t have nearly that many!!

is there anyone who’s gotten the scholarship without submitting so many certificates? i don’t know if i’m just setting myself up for disappointment because i only have like.. 5 certificates to submit rn 🥲

GKS scholars at top 10 universities - do you have any tips?

if you were awarded the scholarship and accepted into a high ranking university in korea -

what do you think set you apart from others?

what was the most significant part of the application?

could you share your overall profile?

GKS-G Korean language education major

i was looking through the information pack for korea university and saw that they have a korean language education major (한국어교육학) which requires a TOPIK level 6; but they also have a separate korean language and culture education major (한국어문화교육학) which only requires a TOPIK level 3..?

is there anyone enrolled on either of these courses at KU who could provide some insight?

GKS-G personal statement help

Hello! I have been preparing to apply for GKS-G 2027. Yes, I’ve started preparations 7 months in advance, I want to give myself the best possible chance and be as prepared as I possibly can be 🥲

My question is, is there anyone who has successfully obtained the scholarship who could take a look at my personal statement and give their opinion on anything they think I should change?

My desired major is Korean language education :)

family relationship proof

  1. i have a certified copy of my birth certificate but not the original, can this be used?

  2. my parents do not have their birth certificates, but they do have passports. this would only prove nationality though, how can i prove the family relationship? - on my birth certificate it does say the names of my parents but it has my mothers maiden name so the surname would not match the one on her passport

disclosing mental health issues

just wondering what people think — the medical form asks whether you’ve suffered from “depression, anxiety, or any mental or mood disorder”, do you think the answer affects your chances of being selected?

i’m autistic & also diagnosed with depression and anxiety (all diagnosed 8 years ago) but i’ve never been on medication for it or anything like that. i’m wondering if disclosure is necessary even if i can cope without additional support. i just worry that it could have a negative impact on my application

GKS-G aspiring applicant, do i realistically have a chance?

i want to apply for GKS-G, potentially in one of the following subjects: teaching korean as a foreign language, korean language and literature, or korean translation. this is my info;

i’m a polish citizen, but grew up in the UK & all of my education including my bachelors degree were completed here so i’m fluent in english

• graduating from a TESOL (teaching english to speakers of other languages) and korean language bachelors degree with first class honours (4.0 GPA on the 4.3 scale, or 94 on the 100 point scale; according to the conversion table published by the korean education centre UK)

• achieved a TOPIK level 5 in 2024; will need to take the exam again since it expired this year

• won first place in the king sejong korean speech contest in 2025 which meant i got to spend a week in korea

• volunteered at a korean language education conference at my university

• attended 2 translation and interpretation workshops

• attended a talk with the korean ambassador in the UK about korea-UK relations

• took part in a buddy programme in which i helped incoming exchange students from korea settle into life in the UK

• did some volunteer translation and subtitling for a korean language podcast

• currently taking an online summer course by kyunghee university that’s on korean content and culture translation; the lectures i’m watching are all in korean & i will receive a certificate confirming that i completed this programme once i finish it

my korean lecturer from university is also encouraging me to take a course at the korea national open university (online); he says that many professors are from SNU and that the teaching quality is very good, so i’m looking into applying for that.

is there anything else that i should work on?
