Jessica's Origins

First of all, I think Maine was a perfect place to be Jessica's home state, because Mainers I've noticed tend to have an accent that's a mix of Northern US and Canadian-British, so Angela Lansbury's sometimes obvious British accent doesn't seem out of place.

But I couldn't remember if Jessica is a native Cabot Cover.

I remember her talking about her and Frank buying the house as newlyweds, and that she was a teacher in Cabot Cove, but there's just something about the vibe that makes it seem like she wasn't born and raised in the Cove.

I know part of it may be that she basically becomes famous in the first season, but she doesn't have any close female friends; even the ladies at Loretta's are more acquaintances. She's sometimes on committees, but nothing weekly like a craft club or book club or garden club... or bike club! She doesn't have a group of friends over for tea (except Ethan or Seth, but not a group), she doesn't host parties or teas (unless it fits into the story); same with being invited to them... she just seems like an outsider.

I know that many small communities consider someone an outsider even if they've lived there for decades, this is why I wondered about that dynamic.

We're off to Kill the Wizard

[Apologies if this has been discussed before]

The one thing (one thing?!? - Clue reference) that always bothered me about this episode was that at the end Jessica gives a huge sum of money to a random secretary in front of her nephew-in-law. Her niece and NiL let her stay in their home with them and their two kids; he's a cop and she's a stay at home mom. I'm pretty sure they could've used the money!
I dunno, that always rubbed me the wrong way.
Thoughts?

No one showed for Grady

I know that the real reason was because of scheduling and real life, but it always bothered me that none of Jessica's huge family/friends was there to support Grady on his wedding day.

Although Grady was Jessica's nephew, she and Frank raised him after his parents died, so both the Fletchers and the MacGills should've been there for him.

Where was Victoria and Howard? Victoria had to be Grady's cousin. What about Carol Bannister-Clay and Gary Clay? Cousin Emma? Cal Fletcher (well, he may not have shown up...)? Tracy MacGill? Etc, etc...

The groom's side should've been packed with MacGills and a handful of Fletchers! And where was Frank's former military buddies? Jessica's sorority sisters? JB's publishers, agents, fellow authors...

You can't tell me Michael Hagarty didn't know there was a wedding going on... imagine if he showed up as one of the guests and happened to sit right next to Dennis Stanton and Harry McGraw!

Also... no one from Cabot Cove was there either? They all had to know Grady! Not even Seth or Eve could make it there? I call foul on that.

Sorry for the ramble, but the episode with Victoria and Howard (Corned Beef and Carnage) was on today, and that started me down this rabbit hole. 😆

Why the Jackal?

In one of the more recent posts, a lot of people mentioned their dislike of the Jackal.

I will admit, every time I watch that scene, I don't get it.
Like... why does this scene exist?

The first time I watched it, I thought Allison Janney was actually singing, but I figured that she wasn't rather quickly.

It just seems out of place and the only one who seemed comfortable with it was Allison Janney, but it seemed something weird for CJ to do... and it wasn't like a staff secret, because Danny knew about it.

Was it just to show how nerdy and uncool the Senior Staff was, because those boys had no rhythm and seemed awkward?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Turning back the counter

In the episode Make Me a Perfect Murder, Kay turns back the counter back on the camera, and I'm not sure why.
Wouldn't that screw up the timing of the movie? I'm not sure how that helps her gets her extra time for the murder, or who would even see it after the numbers are rolled back to zero when the movie's over.
Help! It's been bothering me for years. It's streaming right now on live TV (yay! We've gotten to Columbo!) and I figured... why not ask the people who would know!

Crikey!

Wait... when did Jessica go to Australia?
No lie, I never saw this one before.
I have a feeling I'm going to be disappointed.
I wasn't fond of the Ireland ones either.
Are there any non-US location episodes that you all like?

[Edit: I'm not saying I don't like the non-US ones; I'm just curious which foreign locale episodes y'all like!]

NZ season 1

I am almost at the end of Traitors NZ season 1, and I really liked it. It seems like a lot less drama and sheep-thinking than US, UK, Canada, Aus...
I was wondering if others agree with this, or if I've just gotten use to the Traitor-centric drama...
I'd luv to read what you all think!

Why Leo?

I'm watching the last two seasons of the show, which honestly are my favorites. Besides liking the behind-the-scenes of the Vinick/Santos election, I think I just got tired of the original crew. At least these seasons make them grow and change a little bit.
But, one thing that always bothers me... why in the world would they choose Leo as Matt Santos' running mate? There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it, besides giving John Spencer something to do. Besides his age and his health, Leo has been behind the scenes of government for seven-plus years. Shouldn't they have given Matt a more publicly active politician for his VP?
Or maybe someone younger who didn't recently have a massive heart-attack?
It seems very short sighted, since the VP should be a viable contender for the presidency in 8 years. Wouldn't someone like Nancy McNally have been a better choice?
It just seems like a weird, out-of-nowhere decision.

3, 565... 64... 63... 62... 61...

My favorite shows in the M,SW series - the ones I'll stop what I'm doing to watch, even though I've seen them hundreds of times - are the ones that take place in Cabot Cove.
I love the small town vibe and the quirky characters - especially the ladies at Loretta's - the sheriffs that look to Jessica for help, the way Jessica isn't treated like a superstar, but is needed on the Founders' Day Raffle Committee.

Also, as mentioned often, the amount of murders in such a small town...

So, do you have a favorite Cabot Cove-centric episode?

Some of mine include "Keep the Home Fries Burning", "If it's Thursday, it Must be Beverly", and "The Sins of Castle Cove".

Grand Old Lady

I turned on the TV today to find Grand Old Lady (S6e3) playing.
Now, I'm not really fond of the bookend episodes, but this was I always had a fondness for.
I think it was the Agatha Christiesque vibe, and the sweet ending.
I know that the bookend episodes are usually a favorite, but are they any that you enjoy watching, even without Jessica in it?
