Troubleshooting dip powder + nail stamping
I've been doing dip on my natural nails successfully for years, exclusively with Revel liquids and powders because they just worked really well for me right out of the box. I typically wear a mid to long almond shape and they last 3-4 weeks without chipping, cracking, or lifting with my lifestyle. My normal process is: remove previous set w acetone > trim/shape free edge > push/trim cuticle > buff nail plate > skinny layer of clear dip powder to build apex > 2x layers of color dip powder > 1x layer of clear dip powder > activate > shape/file > activate > 2x layers of dip top coat.
Recently though I've been obsessed with nail stamping because it brings me such childlike joy to have pretty art on my nails. I bought a small set of maniology supplies and tested just putting sticky base & stamps & normal polish clear coat over the top of a finished and sealed dip set that I buffed to help it stick. This did work, but the normal polish was peeling after just a few days and ruined the finish/art pretty quick.
Then I tested putting on stamps "sandwiched" between my final color powder layer and my top clear powder with their corresponding sticky base & top coat. This worked as well and the art stayed perfect the whole set, but I couldn't file & shape the final dipped nails very well due to trying to protect the art, so those came out with poor shape & surfaces despite lasting the whole set without issue.
My most recent attempt I thought went well... but after a few days I'm getting serious chipping and separating like I've never seen before (before and current pictures shown). This round I started as normal but activated and shaped after my color powder layers, then stamped & normal polish clear coat, then clear dip powder > activate > buff > activate > dip top coat x2.
In my testing I've found:
-Revel dip top coat does not play nice with stamping polish. I have to use a stamping top coat to keep it from smudging/bleeding the art.
-Due to the extra layers of normal polishes I seem to be flooding/bulking around my cuticles way more than I'd like.
-Water-based top coat worked much better than the maniology smudge proof top coat, so that's what I've run the full set tests with so far.
-I have to use the sticky base coat to get my stamps to adhere to the nail at any stage. (Disability keeps me from moving fast enough for just the straight stamps to work).
-I cannot use uv gels so some other options on how to tackle this are inaccessible for me.
So I'll take anything you pals can suggest. Different liquids/powders, different layers or orders, or just anything that might be helpful. I'm desperate to incorporate beautiful art with my durable, protective and reliable dip powder nails!
TL;DR: Pretty please, does anyone have a solid recipe or experience doing nail stamping art in addition to sturdy dip nails with no uv gels?
