2026 Portable Charger on a 15 Amp Circuit

Hi all,

For those of you who set your AC charging to 8A while on a 15A circuit, here is an email from my dealer:

>The portable charger that comes with the vehicle when on a 120V system is rated for 12 amps..

>I would keep it at the 8 amp setting to be safe as most homes circuit breakers are rated for 15 or 20 amps. Setting it for 16 amps will be too much if that breaker is on a 15 amp breaker. If you are on a 20 amp breaker you would have to consider what other things are connected to that same breaker switch which might overload that breaker.

I was wondering if it would be ok to turn off the 8A limit and just let the car take as much as the charger allows, so I emailed the dealer. I am sharing their response in case others would find it helpful since I didn't see this question answered on this sub. Hope it helps someone else in my situation.
