Today is big anniversary for my oldest gal. She's at least 12 years old. That's my favorite video of her

She was tagged exactly 10 years ago at the city zoo. Her tagging info says she was at least 2 years old at that time, precise age not known. BTW sex also was marked as unknown (but now I know she's a female).

I call her "mama" because she was and is the oldest martriarch around as far as I know. She's responsible for raising up generations and has a new kid right now too. My neighborhood belongs to her family and their command center is on top of a prominent high-rise building, the highest point around.

I love her to bits and know for many years. What's kinda sad but interesting is, she's very cautious. Very. She knows me 100% but will keep a distance from me at least few meters, no exceptions, even after all these years. She's the only crow I know that acts like that to that level. Yes I will use your balcony but please don't come near. I can be buddy-buddy with all her friends, mates or kids, feed them from hand etc, she doesn't have problem with that, or me at general, but she won't trust me to be at arms reach. Keep your distance hooman. That's how you manage to become old crow I guess.

I love this vid because her clinging to the wall is so rare but funny. Usually they just jump below.

My favorite visitor asking for a snack

And the snack has to be a cashew. No peanut, no sunflower, that cute mouth only accepts cashews.

My friend Cham and his second stab at the puzzle filled with cashews

It's the second time I put out this puzzle for him to solve. We're still on easy mode where half of the treats are easy to get. But he clearly already knows how to open the lids. Though doesn't understand that his feet can block the movement of the lids. That part is actually hard and not easy to learn.

He's the second crow I managed to play with this puzzle. The previous crow actually is a friend I miss very dearly, he disappeared at the beginning of the nesting season and hasn't returned (yet?). He was chased off from the territory... by this guy right here. Feels kinda weird to play with the same toys with him! But also it's very fun and interesting to observe how different bros approach same puzzles.

Say hello to my little friend

One of the neighborhood tits is exceptionally curious and approaching. They can be so noisy it's incredible how high pitched their calls are, yet it doesn't bother me at all, I love it and it's a music to my ears, oh and the trrrr sound of the fluttering wings is as a sweet balm for the bleeding ears.

These are my close neighbors. Pair of magpies and crows. They live right next to each other. Magpies occupy short bushes/trees and crows now have a nest up on a very tall tree just next to them. Crows at the moment claim whole area around the tree as theirs and are adamant to defend it.

So magpies are now constantly raided by this pair of crows. It's usually led by the male. Female is keeping tabs on magpies and when male swoops in, she joins him and they together start chasing magpies. They chase them away through branches but also get physical and use claws. One magpie already went through an leg injury (recovered) and now the other one has torn tail feathers. They are much smaller so the fights are not even, though in the last period maggies start fighting back and I saw *them* attack crows first (I guess that's the best defense) - also viciously, with claws targeting the head.

It's of course all natural order of the nesting season. While I hope these particular magpies haven't ever hurt eggs/babies of the crows, and vice versa, instinct is instinct. I've never seen magpies trying to reach the crow's nest, though their territory is raided regularly. I don't know if they even have eggs this season but I hope crows won't be that dickish about it and would leave them alone. Right now I'm witnessing constant fights, crows vs magpies, crows vs crows (other crows are also chased away). I tried to show them that my balcony is a sanctuary and no fights are allowed and that they should stop attacking those poor magpies, but for some reason they don't listen what hooman has to say!

She is going through some kind of molting and has a bit of bald patches. Sunlight hit one on her throat skin just right, making it glow from the inside. Or I just exposed her deep secret.

Highlights:

at 0:20 she blinks like a camera shutter

at 0:53 she caws cutely though rudely with full mouth

at 1:20 she caws so intensively her neck glows up
