Red Pill or Blue Pill? You might soon get to choose your passport’s color.

The Matrix was right—it all comes down to a choice.

The European Commission has registered the "STAR-PASS" (2025/000004) initiative, and the signature collection is officially OPEN!

The goal: Give EU citizens the optional choice between the standard national burgundy cover and a new, unified EU-blue design with the 12 gold stars. It’s about visualizing our European identity without losing our national roots.

I am experiencing severe, intermittent issues with my Pixel 7a (approx. 2.5 years old) that make the device unreliable. I suspect a deep-seated software conflict or a hardware-level communication error, despite the screen itself being physically intact.

Detailed Symptoms:

  • Total System Freeze: Without any warning, overheating, or low battery triggers, the screen suddenly freezes. Occasionally, the display shows distorted, colored horizontal rows/artifacts.
  • Complete Unresponsiveness: During these episodes, the phone does not react to any input. Forced reboots (Power + Volume Up) do not work, it is not recognized by a PC via USB, and I cannot trigger Safe Mode.
  • Recovery Pattern: The device usually remains "bricked" for several hours until it either restarts on its own or the battery drains completely. Once drained, it can be restarted immediately upon plugging it in, though it often crashes again within 5 minutes of use.
  • Post-Crash Instability: There is a specific issue during the unlock process. After a crash, entering my SIM card PIN often triggers an immediate secondary freeze/crash.
  • Intermittent Nature: The device can work perfectly for weeks at a time before entering a cycle of frequent crashes.

Background Information:

  • The battery was replaced a few months ago by a professional. The phone functioned perfectly for several months following the replacement, so a direct connection to the repair seems unlikely, though I cannot rule out a power delivery issue.
  • The display panel has no cracks or dead pixels; the "colored rows" appear to be a rendering/GPU failure during the system crash rather than physical damage.

I am looking for a solution that goes beyond basic troubleshooting steps, as standard support has been unable to identify the root cause. Given that I cannot even force a reboot during the freeze, I need to know if this is a known kernel issue or a failure of the motherboard/SoC.
