Update: Meta permanently disabled my Instagram while my ADR case is still ongoing - I now have a lawyer
Hey everyone. I previously posted about my Instagram suspension, my ADR Point case and my legal aid appointment in Brussels. A lot has happened since then, so I wanted to give you an update.
On September 30, Meta informed me that my Instagram account had been permanently disabled following my appeal. After waiting since July, receiving that decision was devastating. I firmly dispute it, and I still haven’t been shown the specific content that would allow me to properly understand and challenge it.
Here’s where things stand now:
ADR Point: I submitted my case on August 4, and an assessor was assigned on August 11. On September 28, ADR Point confirmed that they had received Meta’s response and that the assessor was reviewing it alongside the evidence. I’m still waiting for the outcome. I’ve also sent them the September 30 permanent-disablement decision as additional evidence.
BIPT/IBPT: I submitted a complaint to the Belgian DSA coordinator on September 26. They confirmed that it was transferred to Ireland’s Digital Services Coordinator on September 28. I’ve since updated them about the permanent disablement.
Legal aid: I attended my BAJ appointment in Brussels on September 25. Unfortunately, that consultation did not lead to a concrete solution.
A lawyer: I now have a lawyer helping me with the case. Having legal support is an important step, although there is still no resolution or guarantee of getting the account back.
So the situation has moved forward outside Meta, but I’m still without my account and still waiting for the ADR outcome.
I also want to be honest about how much this is costing me. There’s the financial impact, including lost collaborations and income connected to my activity, but also the amount of time and emotional energy this has taken. Collecting screenshots, preparing evidence, writing emails, following up and trying to understand every response has become exhausting.
The account was connected to a community I spent a long time building, with thousands of followers and around 4,000 people in the broadcast channel. Losing access has affected relationships, projects and the ability to stay in touch with people.
After months of trying to follow the available procedures, receiving a permanent-disablement decision really hurt. I’m still fighting it because I believe the decision is wrong, but I don’t want to pretend that this process isn’t affecting me personally.
Right now, I’m continuing with legal support, waiting for ADR Point’s assessment and keeping the relevant authorities updated.
Has anyone received a permanent-disablement decision while their ADR Point case was still ongoing, and later had their account restored? Has anyone here gone further with a lawyer or had their DSA complaint transferred to Ireland? I’d really appreciate hearing what happened next.
Thanks to everyone who replied to my previous post. It helps to hear from people who understand what this feels like.
