Questions for the San Diego FD folks on best way to get hired

Hey folks, I have questions specific for the San Diego firefighters on working towards SDFD in my current circumstance.

Age: 32
Background: Scientist in the healthcare development sector, along with engineering in the field for healthcare

For reasons of my own, I have committed to working towards SDFD. I understand SDFD is the lowest paying department, but to me money isn’t the primary reason for why I am trying to become a firefighter. I know SDFD has their own academy and paramedic program. I am currently applying for EMT school while working my full time job.

  1. Is it true SDFD reliably hires EMTs without a paramedic license? What if the person has and EMT-B but very little experience as an EMT under their belt?

  2. What do you think is the best route: roll the dice with an EMT-B with little experience (while still working full time job), or go straight for paramedic school?

  3. What can I do to make myself competitive and be the best candidate possible?

  4. People have suggested to me to visit a station to ask questions directly. Can I bring some donuts as payment to ask you guys some question?

I will of course be emailing the hiring department directly to ask these questions as well, but I wanted some input from you guys as well.

Indian scout brake fluid reservoir corrosion

Had my bike stored in my garage (Southwest US) for about a year and getting it ready for a 2 day trip. Found the paint peeling from the brake fluid reservoir. Thoughts on if I should be concerned? Brake fluid still looks clear and yellow.

Fuck my Savage I'm building my Buy-Once-Cry-Once PRS rig. Show me your favorite rig!

Ordering a KRG C4 with a 737R and RIII. Planning on going all in with a 6 Dasher setup. Show off your favorite rifle you use so I can use it as an inspiration!

Back in the Game... Questions regarding ATF first assignment

After a year of break from my previous did not get the call I am now back in the game for ATF GL5 coming June

  1. How are first assignments handed out? Is it like the FBI where you list all field offices and typically given top 5?
  2. Do we find out where we are assigned beforehand unlike the FBI, where it is near the end of Quantico?
  3. Seems SWB is in need of agents (as always). What are the chances of me gunning for San Diego and getting it?
  4. I have 0 LEO experience. I know I technically am eligible for GL5 but how realistic are my chances?

Edit: I just learned that the ATF has a 3 year polygraph reciprocity rule and will most certainly make me ineligible. Still keeping this post up as the comments are very helpful. Thanks guys!
