The movie and manga

First of all, I’d like to establish that I’ve not actually finished the manga yet. I’m a little into volume 5, but decided to rewatch the movie anyway.

I watched it for the first time about 8 years ago, but didn’t remember a lick, and was itching to watch the adaptation.

Before shitting on it, I’ll say that the animation was great; it really captured that dystopian, cyberpunk neo-Tokyo feel. Furthermore, I think, from what I’ve seen so far in the manga, Tetsuo’s mental state was a little more visualised. I also completely understand that a full adaptation of the manga couldn’t be done in just over two hours, so obviously they’d have to condense it.

Despite this, I found myself really disappointed by the adaptation. A lot of the characters felt hollow and lacked any real development. I also feel like Lady Miyako was way too downplayed, and almost presented as the leader of some crazy, existing resistance. The existing revolution makes sense, though, because there is no Akira awakening until the very end. However, I feel this also takes away from the destruction presented in the manga, and the creation of the Tokyo empire which in turn further emphasises the dystopian nature of the series.

The colonel’s character also seems brushed over, and he doesn’t exude that same desperation to prevent the awakening of Akira. While I know this is because Akira is simply taken apart in the anime, it still leads to the whole story feeling hollow.

I don’t like the development of Kaneda and Kei’s relationship, either. Again, they both feel just as rushed and hollow as the others, almost like they go from being strangers to friends within minutes.

I won’t continue, because I feel as though my point has been proven, but there are definetly more characters who I feel were written off: Ryu, Yamagata, Chiyoko (obv), etc etc.

As much as I’d like to talk about the ending, I can’t, since I haven’t actually read the ending to the manga just yet. However, I will say that, despite the animation, I felt that the ending was rather random. I normally enjoy mysterious and unfinalised endings, but this felt flat out dumb. Akira swallows pretty much everything in his initial blast, that’s it.

From what I’ve seen in the manga, Tetsuo’s own awakening that brings back the buildings and people taken by Akira’s seems like a balance between the two powers. It’s even described as ‘a second big bang’ and ‘the birth of a new universe’.

Though, as I said, I may read the ending of the manga and eat my words. If any of you read up to this point, feel free to flame and correct me.

For clarification, I watched the Netflix dub, too, which hurt my soul. That voice acting was awful 🫩

Ult tracking

First of all, I js wna say that I’ve always thought this ult was boring. There’s sm potential for a melee ult and ik a lot of ppl in this server agree.

Before any of you tell me that I was tracking the Magik demon, I already know, but this is still ridiculous.

White fox is RIGHT THERE. Why does my ult prio a demon over a player? Even when I destroy it, it still doesn’t track.

Even if I looked past that, the fact remains that this burger ult gets countered by too much bs. I understand that it has the potential to kill through most support ults, but any competent stack can easily comm a huddle and completely negate you.

Icon

Despite the new update, which I know has sparked outrage in most of the community since announcement, I wanted to talk about the Lord icons.

It’s evident that all the new Lord icons are made with the animated style in mind, which is why they all look so good: hood (if you’ve see it), bc, wf, jubilee, etc etc.

It made me wonder about revamps of old Lord icons. While ik this’ll never happen, since the devs can’t even balance their own game, I’ve got a question about it:

If you guys could have our icon revamped, would you? I like the current icon but feel that maybe there’s more that could be done with it. If so, what would you guys want the icon to look like/feature???

Pinned Butterfly

As much as I love this skin, and frankly couldn’t understand the hate it received when it was first revealed, there’s a glaring issue that I’ve not seen enough talk about.

Her boobs are massive. Plus they buffed her ass too.

I get it, right? Explicit skins = more sales because ppl buy it for the goon, but dude.

There is room for improvement with this skin besides the inflation, but I still believe this skin is one of her best, even if that’s a controversial opinion. However, after playing just a few games with it on, and having it as my lobby hero since it came out, I can no longer bring myself to wear it. The size up of her chest puts me off the skin and actually just looks flat weird on her frame.

Personally, I wish they’d just use the base body model for everything, and it gets on my nerves when they unnecessarily ‘buff’ characters in skins.

Despite owning almost all of her skins (besides formula r) I still almost exclusively use vengeance or blood, just because they look the most natural to me.

Mb for the rant again, seems it’s all I do on this sub. Not much point to this; it’s just something that gets under my skin.

Console to Pc

I’ve been wanting to switch to pc for a while for a multitude of reasons: aim (especially), fps, mods, etc. Obviously, there’s more benefits to owning a pc and having access to the steam library outside of rivals, but playing rivals or other hero shooters will be the main reason.

However, my question is whether it’s even worth it.

Switching to keyboard and mouse will mean relearning mechanically how to play the game which, while I can’t imagine will take a significantly long time, mastering aim on a mouse will definitely take patience.

On top of that, there’s the cost of a pc and the related hardware, along with learning how to manage it all, which I can’t imagine is extensive as long as I buy a prebuilt but still.

I just feel like playing on controller limits me, and while that may be a weak mind talking, pc players have so many more benefits just outside of aim. I always feel like I’m at a disadvantage playing against other console players, who obviously play lots of melee, because they don’t have to constantly focus on hitting their shots. I’ve been playing psy for ages and still only average around 35-40% accuracy in my games.

So, is it actually worth switching? Or should I stick to what I’m familiar with and master it.

Nerfs

At first I didn’t even realise how good she was, but it set in after a few hours of play. Psy was amazing, sure, bis even, but dude. Phoenix, gambit, Luna, cy, and even more characters spend seasons upon seasons as broken meta slop. We get TWENTY FOUR FUCKING HOURS in the spotlight and immediately get our range cut in half and teamups nerfed.

This is ignoring the fact that they hardly touched any of the other teamups, then proceeded to buff invis, Luna, Phoenix, and cy.

I’m sick of watching my favourite character become ass after being in the same situation as any other. These devs must be taking something because it gets to a point where they genuinely just throwing bs at us.

I understand that she needed a nerf but omds; nerfing the Emma team up and MAYBE the dmg from cnd would’ve been enough. But no, they had to touch her base kit and make her miserable.

Sorry for the rant. Kinda pissed rn. Still gna be instalocking her in comp. Fuck double g and Zhiyong. Fuck the dev team. Fuck this game.

Nerf visual clutter.

Psy skill

Can anyone help me out with an explanation for why psy takes skill. My mates try to dispute me sometimes and I can’t give a straight answer.

Got 100 hours on her and recently hit champ, gm console player.

I understand that mechanically, she is difficult, mostly with aiming. Her spread and damage falloff mean that executing bread and butter is hard to do through healing or if you miss pellets.

Along with that, her positioning is important because she’s so squishy, and I understand that she’s all about timing. I suppose the pace of the game is an important factor but I just can’t formulate these thoughts into a compelling argument.

I suppose the main take is that her gameplay loop is so simple, which I can’t really disagree with:

Poke from off angle, bread and butter to secure kill, farm cds off tanks. Obviously this is a loose definition and psy can derive value from many different styles of play but this is the base method.

In addition, I hear a lot of ppl say talk abt the fact that she basically just has bread and butter, and it’s basically just a spam of that combo. I find myself using variations of it but, fundamentally, the use of abilities remains the same, so I can’t quite disagree.

Any advice would be appreciated. Help me whoop my friend’s asses in arguments please and thank you.
