Help please! Looking to upgrade gpu and processor

So I’ve had a pc given to me from my father’s friend, and though once upon a time it was a dream to have it’s sorely outdated now. I’m looking to make it run decently smooth in the modern age but not go overboard as I don’t really need high level performance. I’d like to spend less than $300-$400 and I have a second hand store nearby that sells lots of parts, so let’s hope anything recommended to me might be there. When looking at system information the big standout was of course the decade old gpu, any other parts that would help my performance I’m happy to take into consideration!

(I use windows 10 if that matters…)
Gpu: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770K CPU @ 3.50GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.5GHz

Ram: 16Gbs

I do not know much about this stuff, but I could definitely manage putting it together if I get the right pieces… thanks for the help! Comment if you need any more info!
