Can’t tell if we will have another heat dome next week

The forecast keeps changing all the time. One minute I’m hearing it’s another heat dome and it’ll hit 40, the next I’m seeing max temperatures of 31-33 degrees again, now I’m seeing it won’t go above 30 next week - just daily ‘normal’ hot weather peaking at 29.

How bad is it actually going to be next week?

Running during a red heatwave warning, during the day, is dangerous

It’s one thing running during a red heatwave warning very early in the morning or late at night. However, it’s another thing to run at the peak of the day where the sun it’s as its strongest.

This is simply dangerous. I’ve seen so many runners today running at 12pm. If you were one of those runners today, why?

I would imagine the same runners who ignore red heatwave warnings are the same ones who ignore pain and continue to run anyway, leading to injuries.

How much did you spend on physio/rehab when you got injured?

I get the impression it’s very expensive. In London initial consultations can be between £80-120, and then the follow-ups can be around £100 (maybe less) but it adds up very very quickly. I hear that you may also be charged for tests and scans too.

How much did you spend on physio and rehab when you got injured? I don’t get injured so I don’t have any experiences to share. I can’t imagine it’s cheap. I’m assuming it’s cheaper to just not get injured in the first place?

Rowing as a form of cross training to support aerobic base

Cross training is normally done by runners when they’re injured but it’s actually a useful tool to build aerobic base if you’re a newer runner to supplement the running.

More running helps as a newer runner but since I’m doing 8-9hrs+ of running anyway, cross training helps with aerobic base development with minimal impact.

Initially I did indoor bike but I’ve found that as my aerobic base improved it was harder to hit the target HR zone. These days my HR would barely be above a walk.

I’ve tried the rower and instantly was in the target HR zone without even trying, ie lower RPE. The rower seems a lot more efficient.

I know people talk about cycling as a form of cross-training but I don’t hear about those who use the rower for cross-training.

Anyone here who uses the rower to supplement their running volume? What are your reasons why?

For me it seems reliable, I can always get onto a rower and don’t have technical issues, and I like how it recruits a lot more of my muscles.

I don’t get it. People don’t train at best or DNF at worst for London places that *so* many people would love to do. Meanwhile these runinfluencers are handed out places (I have no idea how) and they don’t understand the value of running London.

I’m sorry to say, but it’s a waste of a bib. It’s a joke. You can run a 2:55 as a male and not even qualify for a GFA place as the standards are way higher than that. Then we see people who, frankly, don’t even enjoy running or respect the amount of work and training that it requires, only to get very poor times - if they complete it.

I’m really annoyed at this and it needs to stop. It’s just not fair and it puts me off.

Whatever happened to putting in the training and running a marathon? Why is it that influencers are being handed out world major places so easily?

At this rate, it just seems like anyone who wants to run London shouldn’t bother with trying to qualify. All you have to do is make content and then you’re #gifted with a place. Is that the reward for being an ambassador for the shitty Runna app that’s known to contribute to many injuries?
