i started a job at a marketing agency 6 months ago and the posted salary range was $75K - $85K. they offered $75K, i countered, and we settled at $80K. in hindsight i should’ve countered again, but i was desperate to leave my previous job.
however, the scope of work for this position was vastly misrepresented. multiple people in my department have also quit because of this issue, so we’re now understaffed and i’ve had to take on even more work as a result. i really like my coworkers and clients, but im getting massively exploited for the amount of work im doing.
should i ask for a raise this early on, especially given that im not even on the higher end of the pay scale? my 90 day review was also overwhelmingly positive and my manager even brought up promoting me next year. on one hand i feel like that’s something i can leverage to speak to my value, but i also worry that asking for a raise now will give the higher powers that be reason to delay a promotion.
