Struggling with iflash quad

Hey everyone
I’m trying to install an iflash quad on my 5.5 video. It already had a replacement hdd (an old hitachi) which I can easily put the ribbon back inside, but I can’t put it in the iflash. I unlocked it and no matter how I do it, it won’t slide in. I can force it (I know, really bad) and then it just goes inside for 0.5mm and then blocks. I don’t understand what’s happening since everything is done how it should (I think) and it slides perfectly inside the old hdd.
What do I do wrong ?

UPDATE: Based on the comments i plugged it in the furthest i could and closed the lock, it works. So i'll probably put some tape on the connectors to protect them and update here when i did

GT avalanche build plan

I just bought this 1999 (i think?) GT Avalanche on Marketplace. I'm really looking forward to building myself a cool, affordable bike to wander around.

My plan is to:

- Switch to a 36-tooth single chainring (I had to cut through everything with an angle grinder to remove the old one, so I'll be installing a new one with a fresh new BB)
- 8-speed cassette (so I don't have to change the derailleur and shifter), something like 11-40
- I'm hesitating between a straight handlebar with a slight backsweep, or a very swept-back, mustache-style handlebar. Beyond the style, I don't know how to choose wisely based on the bike's geometry and other features. I probably won't go very aggressive with it so I like the mustache idea.
- New tires, maybe 2.25 or wider (I'm not sure if they'll fit?). Billy Bonkers? DTH? They seem to be good value
- probably change to a rigid fork that I have on another bike, still have to check if everything fits well.

And I think it will be good to go?

Has anyone done anything similar? Do you have any technical or styling tips, or anything else I might not have thought of?
I've learned so much about bikes thanks to this subreddit, so already thank you all!

Just need to put it back in shape. I think it’s a 1999, but not sure about it
