Starting college this year.

I'll be starting my college life this year after taking 1 year drop. My college is very far from my house and in a state where no relative of mine lives and no one is there to take care of me. All my friends are in colleges that are in the state or in a state where they have relatives. On top of that I am a girl. My question is, are there people (especially girls) who have college in a whole different state (I know there are multiples), if yes, is it necessary to have a relative or someone in that state that your family know? To take care of you?
