Is a design degree really needed?

So yesterday I posted about how NIFT is taking a toll on my mental wellbeing. People had mixed reactions ranging from praising the NIFT tag and acknowledging the privilege of being in mumbai to calling me a shirker.

So now comes the main question, WHY? Why should I adapt to the work-intensive curriculum of NIFT? Why should I adapt to the Stress of first year, learning everything which I already know just with some extra bs. WHY IS A DEGREE NEEDED to be a designer?

Why can't I just work my ass off at home, explore all the softwares and build myself from scratch, with lesser money gone, more skills gained. Why is there a need of networking if my portfolio could speak for itself?? Clarify these questions and imma sit right there at NIFT happily and WILLINGLY for my degree with no complaints.🙏🙏

NIFT is taking a toll on my mental wellbeing

So I recently joined NIFT Mumbai for the batch of 2030. And I cleared it right after giving my boards. I also got an offer from NID Andhra Pradesh but I didn't settle for it for not being NID Ahmedabad.

It has only been a week of me being here but I have realised how toxic and two-faced the people are here, the faculty is superfluously particular about random things, they expect us to complete assignments on time and also decorate our LD's (learning diary/notes) as journals. I am from FC and I chose this programme solely for the purpose of being a UI/UX designer. The degree is of 4 years but the first year is about all the stuff not needed in FC or digital design.

All of this is not sparing me any time to develop my own skills or try internships as I do posess basic design skills. The Attendance is mandatory like that's all what matters. And I just know Delhi won't be any better unless you kick out all the unserious rich brats out. I see so many of such talentless students here. I'm genuinely willing to withdraw.

Can ya'll gimme more clarity if it's worth to wait for the degree?
