Is it fair to judge someone based on their family’s religious background?
Salaam,
I’m a Muslim girl, and my family situation is a little complicated. My dad is from a different religion, while my mum is Muslim. He converted when they got married, but he doesn’t practise. I also have half-siblings who follow a different religion.
I’ve been brought up as a Muslim from a young age and have always practised my faith. I went to a Muslim girls’ school until a certain age, so I have a pretty strong foundation in Islam. I pray five times a day, fast during Ramadan, and genuinely try my best to live by my faith.
I’ve been dating a Muslim guy (please don’t judge), and we’ve genuinely been trying to get married. However, his family absolutely does not want him to marry me because of my family background.
Both of our families are well-to-do, and we’re both financially stable ourselves.
I’m honestly just confused. I understand that my family situation is complicated, but shouldn’t there at least be some room for conversation, understanding, and consideration before jumping straight to judgment? Why can the Muslim community be so judgmental?
I’m not blaming anyone. I’m just genuinely confused and hurt. Is this how a lot of Muslim families are? Or any advice on how to approach this situation?
PS: Please don’t come at my parents or judge them. None of us know the full circumstances of someone else’s life, and ultimately, only Allah can judge. I’m not blaming the guy’s family either, just trying to understand the situation and looking for some genuine advice.
