Hair Washing

Diagnosed with chronic fatigue symptoms, doctors looking into CFS or fibro at the moment. Hair is just under my shoulder blades and probably 1c or 2a.

Does anyone else struggle with hair washing? I can barely brush it due to muscle weakness from another condition, but it’s really bad. If I scratch my scalp I literally get grease residue under my fingernails. Washing it is a whole ordeal, often have to get my mom’s help, and it leaves me exhausted for at least the rest of the day and usually multiple days after. How do people do this multiple times a month? Feels like a Herculean task. Would love to know if anyone has tips on making it easier.

Bike Accessories!!

Hey y‘all, this is a random tip from a new wheelchair user to other new wheelchair users, I’ve had great luck using bike accessories so far! I got this cool adjustable silicone(?) cupholder for like 5-10 bucks at Walmart in the bike section. Fits perfectly on my armrest and the strap can be pulled for different cup sizes. Way less expensive than wheelchair-specific things but a lot of the items are built for wheelchair reasons (being stable when moving, attached to small poles, not getting in the way of moving parts, etc), budget friendly and also often less medical looking. Just wanted to share something I thought was cool :D

Manual Wheelchair Recommendations!

Hello y‘all! I am about a week into my wheelchair journey :) I have a very basic one-size-fits-all chair right now from a DME shop. I tried to find a good new one on my own for if I’m in it for the long run, but got immediately overwhelmed and confused by the amount and all the new terms. I’m F16, 5’2, and 120-ish lbs if that’s important to know. I’ll also put what I want below, but if some things are contradictory any chair that has a passable amount of things on the list would be amazing.

- Semi-easy to push wheels for someone with muscle weakness, comfortable to sit in for long periods of time, preferably more quiet (not a TON of squeaking and creaking), can navigate on both tile and carpet, has handles so someone else can push me if I’m tired, relatively compact so I can fit through the doorways in my house.

Right now I have the ProBasics K1 Standard Wheelchair, which fits pretty perfectly in my house but is really hard for me to self-propel in and is also very loud. All the creaking isn’t great for my autism sensitivity to sound lol. Thank you!!
