SSH registration approval and room booking Rotterdam.

Hi!

I’m moving to Rotterdam to study at Erasmus University. SSH registration opened today (11th May) and I was able to get an approval. This allows me to book a room on 19th May.

What are my chances to secure a room now?

I found contradictory information on SSH and EUR’s website. SSH states that the number of approved students are many more than the rooms available and not everyone will be able to book a room. Whereas the information about SSH on Erasmus University’s website states that the number of approvals is equal to the number of rooms available (other students are waitlisted).

I was able to secure another room via RoomPlaza which is a bit far from the university and slightly expensive. I am yet to sign the contract for it. Knowing my SSH situation will help me.

Thanks!

Fair price and commute time for a room in Rotterdam

Hi!

I’m 24M moving to Rotterdam to study at Erasmus University this fall. I was able to secure a room through RoomPlaza. I’ll be sharing it with 3 others. The total rent + utilities is €810 per month. Commute time to university is 25 mins by bike and 20 mins by public transport.

Is this a good deal? Is travelling 25 mins by bike realistic? Should I spend more time looking for cheaper rooms or rooms near university?

Thanks!

Careers and job roles.

Hi!

I am 24M moving to Netherlands this fall to pursue a masters in Econometrics (Quantitative Finance track) at Erasmus University Rotterdam.

To the people here who have studied Econometrics (or equivalent degree) or are working in this field-

What jobs are you in now and in which city are you based in?

What do you do on a daily basis?

How much programming and mathematics do you use on a daily basis?

How is the career progression?

I have experience as a SWE and I’m looking to transition into roles which are closer to the markets.

Thanks!
