What's a home-cooked dish from here that most outsiders have never heard of?

Every city has those dishes that barely get talked about outside, usually because they're a home thing and not really sold anywhere. What's something you grew up eating here that you almost never see on a menu? Would love to hear the stories behind them too, not just the names.

How do people in GIFT City manage lunch on back-to-back meeting days?

Some days my calendar is so packed that lunch ends up being whatever is closest, which usually isn't great.

For people working around GIFT City or other office areas in Gandhinagar, how do you handle lunch when you barely get a break? Do you plan ahead, carry something from home, or just wing it each day?

A small habit that helped me eat better on busy work days

Between back to back meetings, it is easy to skip lunch or just grab chips from the pantry. One habit that helped me a lot:

I started keeping a small box of fruit or roasted chana at my desk, so I always have something better than the vending machine when I get hungry between meals.

I also try to actually step away from my screen for lunch, even for 15 minutes. Sounds small, but eating while working made me eat too fast and still feel unsatisfied after.

What helps you eat better on busy work days? Curious what other people in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar offices do.

3 small tricks that helped my picky eater actually eat lunch

3 small tricks that helped my picky eater actually eat lunch

My daughter used to bring her school lunch box back almost full. A few small changes helped a lot:

  1. Cut food into fun shapes or small bite-size pieces. Kids eat more when food is easy to pick up.
  2. Keep one familiar item in the box, even on days you try something new. It makes the new food feel safer.
  3. Let them pick between two options in the morning. Even a small choice makes them more likely to eat it.

None of this is magic, it just took patience and a few weeks of trying. What has worked for your kids? Would love to hear other ideas from this group.

👋 Welcome to r/AhmedabadLunchbox - What's the one lunch your child always finishes?

Hi everyone, I'm Priya. I run Leafy Cafe, a local kitchen in Ahmedabad that cooks school meals fresh every morning and brings them to the school gate.

Every parent we talk to has the same morning question: what can I pack that won't come back untouched? So we made this space for parents in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar to share what actually works.

What you can post here:

  • Lunch ideas your child finished
  • Wins (and fails) with picky eaters
  • Quick recipes for busy mornings
  • Questions about food at school

A few simple rules: be kind, no spam. Other kitchens and home cooks are welcome too, just say who you are.

To start us off: what's your child's age, and which lunch always comes home finished? Even a small tip helps another parent tomorrow morning.
