Where on campus do people actually stop and read a flyer?

Where on campus do people actually stop and read a flyer?

Hey guys!! Where on campus do people actually stop and read a flyer? Student Union boards, the library, specific dorms or dining spots?

I built left917.net to pull all the Boone news and events into one place, because I was tired of Instagram being the only way to find out what's going on around here. Got a great response on the original post, and I've been putting flyers up around town (The Cardinal, Lily's, Boone Saloon, Espresso News so far). Now I want some up on campus before everyone's back for the fall, and I'd rather put them where they'll actually get seen than blanket every pole. Off-campus spots welcome too. Trying to do this the non-spammy way, so any local wisdom appreciated!

Made a thing because I was tired of opening Instagram to find out what’s happening in Boone

Okay so I’ve been working on this for a few weeks and it finally feels real enough to share.

It’s called 91.7, left917.net. Basically a one-page feed for everything happening in Watauga, Ashe, and Avery. News, weather alerts, road conditions, all in one quiet place. Pulls from Watauga Democrat, Ashe Post & Times, Mountain Times, High Country Press, BPR, App State News, NWS, NC DOT, and Blue Ridge Parkway. No social media required.

I built it because I love this place but I hate that knowing what’s going on here means scrolling Instagram. So this is the opposite of that. No algorithm, no ads, no signup. Just what’s actually happening.

Working on adding events from the venues I keep going to like Boone Saloon, AMB, Lost Province, Booneshine, Todd Mercantile, and Huzzah Books. Library programming too. Long way to go but it’s a start.

If you check it out, tell me what’s missing. I want this to be the thing people actually use.

Named after the empty slot on the Boone FM dial. There’s a whole story behind the name but I’ll save it for whoever asks.

I built a local news broadcast for Boone because I got tired of needing Instagram to know what’s happening

Hey all,

Made a thing called 91.7 / left917.net. It pulls local news, weather alerts, road conditions, and (eventually) event info from Watauga, Ashe, and Avery into one quiet page so you don’t have to scroll Instagram to know what’s going on in town.

https://left917.net/

Sources right now: Watauga Democrat, Ashe Post & Times, Mountain Times, High Country Press, Blue Ridge Public Radio, App State News, NWS alerts, NC DOT, Blue Ridge Parkway.

Named after the empty slot on the Boone FM dial between WASU and the next licensed station. The Replacements wrote a song about chasing low-band signals on the highway in 1985. They called it “Left of the Dial.” Hence the URL.

Free, no ads, no signup, no algorithm. Just what’s happening.

If it’s useful to you, great. If something’s missing or broken, let me know.
