A Big Thanks to The Streamer For Pushing Canvassing

I would've never canvassed before I got involved in this community. Today, I just got done knocking on around 75 doors in about 2 hours. It wasn't always fun, my legs are certainly feeling it, but I got to spread the good word about a local politician in a neck-and-neck race, and I got to remind a few people that they need to vote.

Now to eat some rice and beans.

I used to be a "count every penny" guy, but since becoming an accountant, I'm a lot more forgiving when an extra dollar or two goes to waste here and there. And I'll say to myself too, "That's immaterial."

I think my personal materiality for individual purchases is around $10. If I were to do 5% of net income, my materiality for the year would be around $700.

[According to AMNY](https://www.amny.com/nyc-transit/greenpoint-small-business-shutdowns-g-train-devastating/):

> “It turns out that tunnel under Newtown Creek between Greenpoint and Long Island City needs a lot more work than was originally thought,” Lieber said at an unrelated press conference on April 28. “That is the reason why we are having to do extra weekend shutdowns to get the work done.”

If the issue is just with the tunnel, why does a substantial portion of the G need to shut down on the weekends in the summer? There's a diamond crossover just north of Nassau Av, I feel like it would make sense to run trains to Greenpoint Av (or Nassau Av if that's easier) and cut service to the two Queens stops. Sure, it would make it more difficult for Brooklyn riders to get to Queens and vice versa, but it wouldn't completely cut Greenpoint off from the subway like is planned now.
