Diseased stems how to prune

I just got this pretty sad looking Princess Alexandra of Kent very cheap, wondering how far back should I trim the black stems? Planning to repot asap, is there anything else I need to do to help it recover?

Finally managed to inject colour into the shadiest spot in my garden!

It's a bit chaotic and I definitely might have to rethink the roses, but everything else seems happier than I expected and is only needing a little watering compared to the sunnier spots in this heat so an unexpected plus!

Help with pattern needed, what do I do with the last stitch?!

I'm not sure why I'm so confused by the final rows instructions of this pattern. I have decreased the 5 stitches, leaving me with seven stitches total, and slip stitched the 6th, what happens to the 7th stitch? Do I just leave it? Am I supposed to slip stitch the last two together perhaps?

This is probably very obvious I'm sorry, I'm not a total beginner and this is a very simple pattern but right now I'm totally confused 😅 can anyone shed light?
