Recommendation: Uchiha Sasuke versus the United Shinobi Nations

https://archiveofourown.org/works/59616685/chapters/152052802

Pairing: Uchiha Sasuke/Uzumaki Naruto

Summary: Konoha after the Fourth Shinobi War, he doesn't have a lot going for him: no permanent address, dubious career prospects, a small fortune in overdue fines at the public library, and—worst of all—some kind of complicated feelings situation going on with his best friend, whose bed he happens to be sleeping in.

But asking Naruto out turns out to be the easy part, even if it happens mostly by accident. No, the real problems arise after that, when Sasuke finds himself challenged to single combat (or strategy board game) by every single person Naruto has ever had a thing with. Even without much (any) firsthand romantic experience himself, Sasuke is pretty sure that isn't normal. But hey, in between dodging village council meetings and avoiding folding his laundry, at least it gives him something to do.

Basically: The plot of Scott Pilgrim versus the World adapted to Naruto.

This is peak fanfiction. Art. The single most hilarious thing I've read in the fandom. I haven't stopped laughing since I opened it.

Imo, the hardest form of writing to pull off is balancing humor while still maintaining emotional beats. suspiciousflashlight manages it flawlessly.

Strongly recommended. I'm not a romance reader, I'm not at all a NaruSasu shipper, and I still loved it.

Older Naruto fics that don't get recommended as much nowadays (FFN-era)

Found and read Ricochet by strix. Pretty great fic, doesn't get recommended much nowadays, but seemed to be very popular ca. 10 years ago. Any fics like that?

Weirdest/ funniest comment you've seen on a fic

I'll go first. I've got one where someone (among other things) called Itachi a genocidal commie.

Genocidal I totally get, but commie had me chuckling randomly throughout the day

US to UK move: how to maxinize earning potential?

Hola! I'll be moving to the UK (London area) in the winter due to family reasons. I have full work rights, and interviewing from the US I managed to get a job for 50k GBP. I realize salaries are lower in the UK, but I wanted to make sure I'm making the most of my experience and maximize my earning potential.

For context, I have a PhD in ChemE and close to 3 years of post-PhD experience at a US DoE institute. I'm mostly doing R&D, but I'd be happy to switch. I don't mind switching career tracks and moving out of core or R&D

Are there any routes or career pathways I should look into? I know there are quite a few EPCs in south London. I was also looking into patent law as an option. TIA!

Red Eyes in the Dark: Murder mystery centered around Kotoamatsukami

Summary: Danzo was interrupted when he attacked Shisui. He fled the village, taking with him one stolen eye. Shisui vanished with the other.

Seven years later, Kotoamatsukami is back in Konoha. And a girl with pink hair washes up by the Naka with no memory of who she used to be.

(In which Detective Sakura solves the mystery of her own murder, aided by letters from her pre-amnesia self.)

Moving from the US to the UK on a Global Talent Visa to be with my long-distance partner. I'm a month out from the move, and I thought my mind was made up, but now I'm getting the jitters.

I know the potential drawbacks. I was brought up in another, much poorer country and I'm willing to take the hit on salary and COL. I just don't know if I'll end up struggling to make ends meet in the UK.

For context, I have a PhD in an engineering discipline and I make 100k right now in a very rural area. My industry tends to be very location-specific, so my options in the US are (a) middle of bumfuck nowhere, and (b) Texas.

Both seemed like depressing choices, and once I got my GTV, I got an offer in London where my partner lives so I jumped at the chance to take it and now I'm having cold feet.

Pros of the UK: Urban area, population density, and longer maternity leave (I want kids in the future). Better public transport (I came to driving later in life, I'm not the biggest fan). Better job opportunities in an urban area (RN I drive 3 hours both ways for a dentist)

Cons of the UK: Lower pay, smaller houses, and dreary weather.

I thought I was fine with these options, but now I'm wondering if I'll be struggling to with money in the UK. I don't spend much here in the US, but that might be because I live 2 hours away from anything to spend money on. I'm taking a pay cut (from 100k USD in an LCOL state to 50k GBP in London). Idk if I'm making the right choice here at all. I realize I'm panicking but I was hoping for some advice. TIA!

Locations near/in Konoha where you might be able to stash an unconscious kidnapping victim

Context: Non-massacre AU. The premise is that Danzo was caught in the act when he attacked Shisui. He flees the village with Shisui's eye and goes rogue. Shisui also leaves the village to avoid provoking the clan.

Fast-forward seven years, someone is going around Konoha spamming Kotoamatsukami, and Sakura finds out. Fast forward one more year, Sakura washes up by the Naka having lost all her memories. Together with Sasuke, armed with letters from her pre-amnesia self, she needs to figure out who attacked her and why, before they come back to finish the job.

Problem: So for the plot, I need a high-level shinobi (Shizune or Ibiki, haven't decided yet) under Kotoamatsukami, to attack Sakura and get beaten down. Sakura and Sasuke are then stuck with an unconscious Shizune/Ibiki. They then stash Shizune/Ibiki somewhere, and then get Ino to mind-switch and then access some files they need from the Archives.

Any ideas for where such scenes might be set? My initial thought was some unnamed safehouse in the Uchiha clan quarters, but that doesn't quite work (Ideally they'd pick a location that cannot implicate the Uchiha). I was thinking of the training grounds or some such location, that anyone can access, but arguably that's too insecure. I realize I'm nitpicking but I'd prefer a canon location if possible. TIA!

I'm an Indian national figuring out stage 2 of GTV. I've been living in the US for over 8 years now. I've spent 1 month in India over the last year. As far as I can see, I should not need a TB test, because I don't met criteria 2 of the checklist:

  • you’re coming to the UK for 6 months or more
  • you’ve lived in any of these listed countries for 6 months or more
  • you were living there (or another listed country) within the last 6 months

Wanted to cross-check just in case. TIA!
