What did people used to do with their dogs all day?

I’m not a dog owner but almost everyone else in my life is and it seems like it’s fairly normal for dogs not to be able to be left alone for any significant amount of time anymore.

Has that always been the case and I wasn’t aware?

I have friends who balance an alternating work from home schedule with their partner so someone is always with the dog. And when that’s not possible, I have family members where their dog always has to go out with them everywhere or spend the day in doggy daycare or else the dogs are apparently miserable, barking and tearing up furniture all day.

I’ve obviously known people with dogs my entire life but I swear this wasn’t the case when I was a kid. I thought dogs used to be able to be left at home at least during the work day and doggy daycare was only when someone was going on a multi-day trip.

Was that not the case? What were people doing with their dogs when they had work and other social events 10, 15, 20 years ago?

So baby #3 is due in August and I also have kids who are 4 and 13 months old.

My MIL really wants to gift us a double stroller (she had twins so she says they’re a life saver) but I’ve been stumped when it comes to picking one out.

So what double stroller do you have and does it work well for your family? Is it side by side or top and bottom? Is there any specific feature we should be looking for? And would you recommend a double stroller over a wagon if you have 3 or more children total?

Thank you for any and all help!
