Bringing urushi from Japan to the USA

Could anyone give me insight on bringing (not shipping) ki-irushi, e-urushi, etc. to the USA? I’d like to know if anyone has had trouble at customs after simply putting urushi or any related materials (tonoko, jinoko, etc.) in their checked luggage.

Apologies in advance if the answer is already somewhere - I’ve done a bit of Googling but results mostly talk about permissions for importing!

Ragtime is coming back to Japan in early 2027.

I don't know if I'll see this - I'm unfairly unbiased because my only experience with Ragtime is the Lincoln Center version starring the incomparable Joshua Henry and Caissie Levy, and of course many, many more amazingly talented cast members.

Anyway, did anyone see this in Japan the last time? And uh... how was it?

Disclaimer: second pic is from the 2023 run, as they haven't released main or cast visuals yet for this one.

Very random, but for some reason, the Japanese Wikipedia page for the Sweeney Todd movie uses a random pic of the premiere rather than the poster.

So. Many. Whisks.

All sorts of bamboo whisks at the studio of Tanimura Tango, one of the few places that still makes them. I don’t practise tea ceremony but still appreciate the craftsmanship.

Maybe Happy Ending (Japan) character chart

The Japanese production of Maybe Happy Ending put up a handy chart showing the cast and relationships between each character (sorry Gil/Dez, I'll miss you popping up to emotionally destroy me). Plus, there are a bunch of "motion posters" which are pretty much fancy gifs - nothing showing Oliver's robot moves, but I'm assuming it'll be the same as the 2020 production!

Tickets aren't on sale for the general public yet, but I'll definitely be travelling to Tokyo for this :)

Finally got to see the Merrily We Roll Along proshot - in Japan!

I loved it but also totally get what everyone was saying about waaaay too many closeups.

Praying for them to screen Hadestown next!

London ceramics studios, would kintsugi be something your members and students are interested in learning?

Apologies if this isn't the right place to ask, but I'm trying here because it's ceramics-adjacent.

I work with Japanese craftspeople and am hoping to bring an artisan who teaches kintsugi to London next year. So far, ceramic artists and hobbyists have been some of the most appreciative and enjoyable participants we've had, so I thought it would be great if we could teach a session at a ceramics studio willing to host us. That being said, I'm not sure what interest is like in the general London ceramics community, so if anyone has any insight, I would appreciate hearing from you!

Note: The photo is actually of gintsugi as it uses silver for the finish rather than gold (the kin in kintsugi).
