12 Matcha New York City.

12 Matcha New York City.

I didn’t want to like this place cause it felt a bit forced. But it’s the best matcha in NY, period.
I suggest it only for matcha purists. If you like fun, syrupy colorful matcha, this is NOT your place.
Great design, not a ton of seating. NOT for being on your laptop. Grab a legit traditional matcha and have a conversation.
Cheers

This is what a 10g matcha latte looks like in a 16oz cup

I made this because I had a long drive and sharing with my wife but I figured I’d share because I think most people forget that matcha has caffeine.

Maybe not as much as coffee but at 10g you are somewhere in the 300-400mg range potentially depending on the matcha.

I see a lot of social media content with rich green lattes that are in tall glasses or cups and it’s hard not to notice that they must be using upwards of 8+ grams of matcha then those just getting into matcha see it, try to make something similar with a moderate recipe and get disappointed by the result.

So in a nutshell - if you’re caffeine sensitive, take it easy with matcha too. smaller ratios for a rich matcha latte are usually best. I find that 8-12oz cups are best.

Personally 8oz-10oz cups are the sweet spot for me (, with ~2oz of made matcha (4g matcha + 45-55ml of water) make really enjoyable matcha lattes, topped with ice and milk of choice.

Hope this was of value to people just getting into matcha

I sadly need 10g matcha in one sitting

Made this with 6g + 30ml water + 200ml milk + maple syrup.

Colour was GREAT but I became really sad when I realized I much prefer my usual 10g matcha… (with 250-300ml milk) which is bad for my wallet and heart….

Someone please help me….

This ruined my day

I was running late to work so I couldn’t make my daily matcha at home, stopped by a coffee trailer that according to them they use “ceremonial matcha”, this is what I received.

DHL service

I received an email on Monday claiming I need to pay customs fee in order for them to process my package. I immediately sent an email to dispute these charges on a Monday. 2 days later they sent it back to Los Angeles although there is a grace period of 5 days to “pay”(which I was not going to). DHL is the worse. Scammers at best.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, & De-Influence

Edit: I’m very aware of microplastics. I get it but nearly everything we eat is wrapped or sealed in plastic or even wear. This is a temporary solution until a newbie finds a cost-effective mug or, like me, someone who is moving and has no cups yet. I’d rather rinse & reuse a cup a few times til I can get a proper travel mug than throw away multiple plastic cups. Everything is a trade off

This is just a friendly de-influencing reminder that you, especially new matcha lovers, do not have to buy some fancy wick jar or whatever to house your matcha!

1st pic: I was traveling to visit family and stopped in a cute matcha shop. I kept the cup and have been reusing it for weeks now as my travel-to-work cup. There’s no need to go on Amazon and buy a special cup when cups already exist.

2nd pic: If you really get into matcha, you’ll probably start making your own syrups and purées. That’s not salsa but strawberry puree in a reused salsa jar!

Just know you don’t have to break the bank or let TikTok influence you to spend money where you don’t have to if you’re not completely sold on it. And hey, the more money you save in this area means more money for the actual matcha

Tokyo Matcha Haul

Just got back from Tokyo and already missing all the good to-go matcha places! Lambert and Hatoya were my favorites. I picked up Ippodo Ummon and the to-go packets to try, but didn’t have a chance to get a to-go latte from there. What are some of your favorites?!

Very pretty but not strong enough for latte

Iv tried wako a couple different times now and im very unimpressed with both the latte and usucha. I only taste one vegetal note and its flavor is way too delicate for a latte and im wondering if people who like wako in their latte even like matcha at all.

FYI if you order matcha from Japan via DHL

So I got matcha from MK, shipping to the US, received $61 fees to pay, sent DHL email to dispute duties. They disputed the green tea duties but they are still charging me $28 FDA/OPL fee and $1.34 regulatory charges.

I asked to explain what these charges are exactly for and this the response I received.

Iced Mango Matcha Latte

This was phenomenal. I bought it for my girlfriend from a local cafe.

I didn’t know matcha was a type of green tea. So, if I drink it frappe style without adding sugar, will it aid in weight loss? Is it for weight loss?🤔

Because I have ordered culinary grade matcha tea from some chinese brand dofotea on a whim. I dont know much about it but im planning to make matcha lattes for me and my girlfriend.

Matcha enthusiasts— can I still make a decent latte with these brands?

Hi there!! I am new to making matcha, and these were given as a gift to me from Japan, but it seems they are more on the lower quality / entry level side of powders? I would love to start making matcha lattes, but am I at a loss using these to make a decent matcha latte due to their quality? Thanks all 🫶🏻❤️

a must try blueberry muffin matcha recipe 🫐🤍

start by making your homemade blueberry jam:
2 cups frozen (or fresh) blueberries
1/2 cup sweetener or sugar
cornstarch slurry (1 tbsp cornstarch, 1 tbsp water, 1/2 tbsp lemon juice)
dash of cinnamon (optional)
vanilla bean paste (optional, but i like)

add to a pot, then cook and stir over medium heat until thickened and slightly boiling (this may take up to 30 mins or so). turn the heat off and leave to cool. if you’d like, you can also mash some of the blueberries!! once completely cooled, transfer to a jar and store in the fridge or use as desired 🫐

then whisk up your matcha, i made a paste first using ~3.7 grams matcha powder to 18 grams hot water, then added the remaining water until i hit 55 grams total and whisked until frothy. add the jam to your cup with brown sugar and cinnamon, then ~115/117 grams milk of choice with ice and your matcha. enjoy 🤍

*optionally, add some cold foam creamer and extra cinnamon to the top!!
