So, I've seen this brand a lot

So, I've seen this brand a lot

I've seen this brand a lot but, I was wondering what the differences were between the matcha's they offer. I don't really care much about prices but I wanna try and get something I like since the jade leaf I buy at Walmart isn't my favorite.

I generally prefer something more fragrant and grassy.

I have trust issues with matcha lattes that I don't make :')

I'm covering the cafes name for privacy, I got a gift card to use so I'm glad i didn't spend own money on this, it was such a let down!!! Since making my own lattes I will never purchase another matcha from a regular coffee shop that doesnt specialize in matcha, so my bad on this but goddamn.

I watched her make it and wanted to ask for an extra shot of matcha but I doubt it would even help, I bought a large too!

Aside from the fact it was anemic as fuck, no sifting, and stirred with a fork? It was meant to be a strawberry matcha? The strawberry wanted no part of this. Milky and granular no smoothness, just sadness.

This was a 3/10.. being generous.

Any good matcha and hojicha recs for a beginner ?

Hey guys! After a long time matcha lover I have finally decided to start making my own from home! I’m just a little overwhelmed on what powder to choose for both everyday matcha drinks and the occasional hojicha . I really enjoy sweet , creamy, nutty, bouncy, and little to no bitterness matchas that hold their flavors in lattes. I don’t have a budget so I’m open to anything! As for hojicha I also like it sweet, and VERY nutty ! One of my local cafes does this banana hojicha latte and that when I tasted love for the second time in my life.

I’m open to any recs!! Thank you!

Prep, Brands, and Notes?

Hello, I recently got into Matcha and I’m wondering what is everyone’s ratios, what you look for in a matcha and favorite brands…

I tried Ippodo Sayaka Matcha when I first started making matcha at home 4g of matcha, 50g of water, &
150g of whole milk + 6g of Agave.
I enjoyed this one but it didn’t fulfill any cravings for me, I found it very creamy and naturally sweet.

Next I tried Naoki Yame Single Cultivator Matcha Set which I absolutely loved!! Especially Yabukita and Seimei. I would do 4g, 40g of water, and 130g of Pistachio Milk Unsweetened by Tache, and 15g of Agave.
By far my favorite ratios and matcha but no one seems to like Naoki?

I ordered Naoki Fragrant Yame Blend.. First I used the same ratio as I did with the previous Naoki Matcha Set and it was horrible as I found it to be very astringent and bitter. But I took this matcha on a trip to TN and wanted to make it work as I knew I wouldn’t find a coffee shop with a good matcha latte lol…
I did 4g of matcha, 40g of the Pistachio Milk, 150g of whole milk, and 15g of agave (with a frother) It was delicious! Very creamy and sweet, very slightly nutty; I felt it brought out a different part of the matcha.(First Pic)

I now ordered NAKAMURA TOKICHI HONTEN Matcha Fuji-no-Shiro and Matcha Seikan-no-Shiro
Let me know if you have any tips on how to prepare this matcha/ ratios.

My favorite is definitely a nutty matcha. I’ve been wanting to find something that is nutty, sweet, and slightly creamy but haven’t gotten all 3 yet in one matcha.

‘’Mango Sticky Rice” Matcha Latte

Maybe can incorporate mochi or blended sticky rice to get the true flavor but this was my interpretation of mango sticky rice matcha with mango puree and coconut cream top!

Review of MK Isuzu, YK Yomo no Kaori, YK Samidori and other SG matcha brands

Hello everyone! I recently tried some matcha from MK and YK and wanted to share some of my thoughts, along with a few accessible and affordable SG brands.

Disclaimer: I only drink unsweetened or very lightly sweetened matcha lattes. I am by no means a matcha expert so please take my opinion (especially the negative ones) with a grain of salt.

  1. MK Isuzu

Rating: 4/5

Edamame, Creamy, Sweet, Little Astringency (feeling of dryness)

This is a great daily drinking option. I understand why people consider it light for lattes but that’s why I enjoy it. It’s easy to drink on busy mornings.

Note: Lighter doesn’t mean lacking in matcha flavour. It’s just less rich and easier on the palette.

  1. YK Samidori

Rating: 3.5/5

Seaweed (I LOVE SEAWEED PROFILES), Creamy, Umami, Rich, Slightly Bitter, Slightly Astringent

It’s slightly more astringent and bitter than Isuzu. The bitterness was refreshing but astringency is not my cup of tea.

Wouldn’t recommend this to first time matcha drinkers but would recommend this to people who want to get into YK matcha. Would not repurchase (but I have a 100g bag after my 30g tin 😭😭)

  1. YK Yomo no Kaori: Current Favourite

Rating: 4.5/5

Very Seaweedy, Creamy, Very Umami, Slightly Bitter, Least astringency (of the 3)

This is the matcha I reach for when I have time to sit down and savour it! Would repurchase.

  1. All of Naoki’s Barista Blends, Naoki’s Superior, Fragrant Yame and Chiran Harvest Blends.

Rating: 1/5

Very Bitter, Very Astringent, Very Vegetal (not in a good way)

These were my first matcha’s and I enjoyed them in the beginning but after trying higher quality matchas, I would not recommend them or repurchase despite its affordability.

  1. Naoki’s Limited Edition Fine Matcha Powder

Rating: 1/5

Much more expensive but not better. Not worth the premium price in my opinion.

  1. Mori Matcha’s Premium Barista Matcha Powder: Affordable and Accessible

Rating: 3/5

Creamy, Nutty, Rich and affordable ($15.99 SGD for 30g), Bitter, Slightly Astringency

It was bitter and slightly astringent but not overpoweringly so (looking at you Naoki). Solid budget friendly option, would repurchase!

  1. Mori Matcha’s Spring Harvest Matcha Powder

Rating: 1.5/5

Vegetal, Bitter, Astringent and affordable ($14.99 SGD for 30g)

The cheapest offering from the matcha brand. This blend was more bitter and more astringent than Mori’s Premium barista blend. For the small price difference, I would choose the premium barista blend every time. Would not repurchase

Overall Conclusion:

If you don’t mind the heftier price tag and want a more premium experience, try YK and MK!

If you want something more affordable and accessible, try Mori Matcha (especially their higher offerings)

THANK YOU FOR READING! I would love to hear your thoughts if you’ve tried any of these matchas! 💗💗💗

Matcha Salt to finish off the tin

To the one that suggested adding some salt to the tin when it’s done, shaking it to get the last bit of matcha and turn it into matcha salt… Thank you!

This is a great way to get the most out of your tin when it’s done. I added a pinch of this in my drink too.

Dandelion Matcha Latte :)

This is a combination of Golden Milk and the MicroIngredients Ceremonial Matcha (Will be trying Ippodo soon). The milk base is homemade almond milk (1:3 almond to water cup ratio). Tastes rich, nutty, and springy!

Does this work? Any alternative?

I saw this brand launch a chasen ring that’s supposed to help break up clumps in your matcha in a shaker bottle. Has anyone tried it and does it work? Or has anyone tried just a normal protein shaker spring? I would like to try this but can’t justify paying $40 for a spiral ring lol

Any shin chasen recommendations?

Never tried using a shin chasen before and looking for an upgrade from a regular chasen. Any recommendations?

Tried “$180” Hatoya Premium Matcha

I bought Hatoya Etsu when it was $66 and it was during a sale. I ended up paying $49 for 20g. Soon after my purchase they hiked up the price to $180??? That’s honestly insane. Was this matcha even worth the original $49 I spent? Answer is NO, this was my least favorite matcha from my Hatoya purchases so far. It’s on the savory side, which I usually do not enjoy. The umami is 3/5. There is no bitterness or astringency. It is smooth, fresh and you do get the pea type flavor. It honestly gives MK Yugen with savoriness added and a little more umami. The Kaoru, also in their premium line, was much better but they also raised that price from $37 to $45. I would re-purchase Kaoru but only during their bigger sales. That one is 5/5 umami with some bitterness which is right up my alley.

That’s $7 I’ll never get back

My usual matcha place had a long line today so I decided to take a leap of faith with a new place. Never again.

Marukyu Koyamaen Yugen is divine

Just opened a new tin of Yugen and I’m impressed. Super smooth and creamy with excellent nutty, vegetal notes and just the right amount of umami. Definitely a tier above Isuzu. This is right up there with Sayaka and Ogurayama for me.

Enjoy!

YK's Shikibu No Mukashi

Now I get what people mean when they say YK Matcha tastes like seaweed. It was a new flavor for me, but I still appreciated it. I’m not sure if it’s my favorite tho—I still prefer matcha with nutty notes. 𐔌՞. .՞𐦯

The ultimate summer drink: Iced matcha latte with a scoop of matcha ice cream

Recipe -

For matcha latte: - 120 ml of oat milk -30 ml of hot water -3 g of matcha

  1. Sift your matcha, then mix it together with the hot water for about 1 minute
