named after their dead father :((
stagdawn died the moon before his kits were born, and i'd like to think that the randomly generated names were purposefully related to his prefix. im so sad, i always saw stagdawn as the kind of cat who would be an amazing father.
puddledapple update!!! + should i send her to the dark forest?
reading my last post might make this easier to understand but essentially puddledapple confessed to her murder and that obviously made the whole clan hate her. so roarseeker (a new warrior, 14 moons) murders her. puddles murder was maybe a little bit valid though (she killed the cat her wife (rosyrunner) cheated on her with, then got back with her wife...) and other than that she's super sweet, she literally confessed bc she couldn't take the guilt, despite having ASTRONOMICAL levels of hate for the cat she killed (wishtooth).
so im wondering, should i send her to the dark forest? what do yall think
kill your ex's mate to get back with them, i guess
there is so much lore with puddledapple and rosyrunner, but the gist is that they used to be mates, had a litter of 3, then rosyrunner cheated w/ wishtooth. puddledapple toughed it out and had another kitten with rosyrunner before deciding she couldn't do it anymore, and they broke up.
a moon later, she gets with her new mate, rhian, and immediately gets pregnant with a litter of 3. she goes on to have another litter with him, as does rosy with wishtooth (only 5 moons ago). as this is happening, puddledapple's hate for wishtooth is slowly growing (naturally btw!! no mediators).
now, puddledapple has murdered wishtooth in cold blood and in the SAME MOON got back together with her ex and wishtooths mate. and puddle's traits are "nervous, great kitsitter & good teacher."
fast turnaround i guess????
ok so basically branchwave and redfur have been mates FOREVER, like redfur was clan founder and we got branchwave just a few moons after the clan started. redfur died. i thought it was so sad but cute that branchwave got pregnant in the same moon, like she's holding the last gift that redfur gave to the world, so i took a screenshot.
THEN, literally ONE MOON LATER, branchwave and EMERALDSTAR (another founder whose previous mate died a while ago but they had six kits together) become mates. WHILE emeraldstar is still grieving for redfur. i'm in shock. i thought branchwaves kits were redfur's, but who knows now?? also weirdly the moon redfur died i checked her starclan thought and it was literally thinking about a random cat in the clan that she wasn't even that close with, instead of her loved ones or their grief or whatever. the drama in this clan is insane.
guide to skills/trait influencing for your apprentice by selecting mentors
ok this is a bit of an experimental guide bc im just going off of whats available online and working from there. i am not a clangen developer in any capacity, and i can barely code, but i can read and so thats what you're getting.
some background: traits in clangen have 4 facets: lawfulness, sociability, aggression, and stability. they each have a scale of 1-16, and the numbers generated for your cat on each scale will collectively correspond to a certain trait (for example, adventurous cats have to be 1-10 on lawfulness, 3-14 on sociability, 3-14 on aggression, and 8-16 on stability).
if you want to change an apprentices trait without editing save files, your best bet is their mentor. mentors have an influence on their apprentices traits, and will pull their apprentice's facets towards numbers that match their own. like if your mentor is less sociable than their apprentice, they would likely make the apprentice less sociable too. that's what those mentor influence descriptions in your apprentice's history mean. if it says your mentor influenced your cat to be "more likely to follow the status quo", it means the lawfulness facet was increased. here's a list of all phrases and what they mean, just ctrl+f "facet_influence_text": https://github.com/ClanGenOfficial/ClanGen/blob/development/scripts/cat/history.py
okay so how do we get our apprentices to have traits that we want? well, you're still limited by their initial traits. going into the files, a facet change of 2 is typical, although 1, 3, and 4 are not uncommon. 5 and 6 are rarer. the point is, its not guaranteed.
you need to start with the trait your apprentice already has, which will tell you what traits are experimentally possible to get. use this website: https://clangen.io/docs/dev/writing/reference/trait-dictionary/#adult-traits to find your apprentice's trait, and read the "similar traits" section.
lets say your apprentice is childish, and you don't like that. well, going to the website yields you the result that childish is similar to playful, troublesome, and flamboyant. as far as i can tell, this isn't a comprehensive list (if you were to go in depth, you'd find obliviousness as pretty close to childish too), and it only takes counts something as similar when one facet is changed. doesn't take into account two facets being changed by a small amount, which happens a lot in mentoring. however, unless you want to manually check every trait's facets, this is unfortunately the only semiautomatic way of doing it.
okay, so you think that you would much rather your cat be playful instead of childish. you go to the playful section on the website, and you see it is indeed pretty similar, with the only difference being a higher range for stability. that means you should probably pick a mentor with a trait that corresponds to a higher stability value. obviously, playful would be the best, because it minimizes unwanted changes by other facets. if you're okay with other changes, make sure to just check what values your mentor/apprentice duo don't share, and what traits would result from a dual influence.
good luck with your apprenticing, and let me know if you want me to make a skill guide!!!
beginner board
i know this question has probably been asked a million times before but is it better to get a complete board or assemble it as a beginner? i dont have a limited budget so i can spend a bit on the skateboard for something of quality, but ive also never skateboarded before and im not sure if i would be able to make it myself. i’ve heard of skate warehouse being a good place to buy items, is that true? id rather get something that has good quality to last a while than something cheap but im not sure which type to get
