HELLO SIZE 12!

I borrowed mt SIL's size 12 jeans to see if they fit. AND THEY DO! Thing is, I am hovering around 170. Haven't dropped more than a pound or two and then regained. I think I am adding muscle so my number isn't going down but my BMI is.

What a thing I did!

Hubs too me shopping for a new machine that would accommodate my new quilting hobby. I was looking at the BL Brilliant. All set to purchase it when the shop owner pointed out a BL Crescendo they had taken in trade. It is 4 years old. And with my machine traded in cost less than $700. She has been beautifully kept.

Now to figure out how to turn it on. 🤔

My first quilt

I finished my first quilt today. This is for my 19 mo old grandson who loves cars and trucks. I found the flannel back first on a destash group I belong to. The backing is a little short so I extended the binding by a couple of inches to frame the flannel and hide the places where the backing doesn't cover. I am really stoked with how it came out. We are traveling out to see him (and of course the rest of the family) tomorrow. I can't wait to give it to him!

Just want to introduce myself

Hey there! This is a recent selfie with my friend Amethyst (Amy). I am married with 2 grown daughters and a cute-as-a-button grandson. I love fiber arts. I knit, crochet, spin, weave and sew. Currently I am on a sewing binge. I also love swimming and glamping with my husband. Hope to meet some new friends!

Finished my quilted jacket

This project challenged me in so many ways.

Pattern: Quilted jacket by Indie Patterns on Etsy size large

Fabric: cotton jelly roll strips

Cotton batting.

I bought 2 identical jelly rolls with a celestial theme. I sewed matching strips together and cut the strips into 4 1/2 inch squares. I sewed the squares into 36" strips. I sewed enough strips together to make a yard of fabric 45" wide. I made 3 of these as I needed 3 yards of fabric for the jacket. Then I added cotton batting and a lining and quilted them together. Now I was ready to cut out the pattern pieces and construct the jacket. I made my own bias tape for binding the raw edges. I prefer to make it rather than buy pre-made.

The challenges I encountered were piecing the squares into the quilt top and quilting them together. I amfairly new to quilting and I learned a lot. The final challenge was the pattern. The directions were quite vague and the illustrations were not that helpful.

Overall I enjoyed this project. Now! Onto the next!!

Quilted jacket

I made this jacket from jelly roll strips. If you don't know what they are they're 2 1/2 inch wide strips that are 40 inches long. They are used to make, among other things, jelly roll rugs. I sewed 2 matching strips together then cut them into 4 1/2 squares. Then sewed them together into strips. The strips became 36x45 inch fabric . Then I quilted the fabric, I needed 3 yards for the jacket. Finally I cut out the pattern pieces and sewed the jacket together. I am really happy with how it turned out.

Just finished this today

I made this for ren faires. Material is all woven cotton some purchased on Etsy some from my LQS. Patterns are from Rabbit and Hat on Etsy. I made all my own bias binding. Poly boning was used in the vest for shaping. I made the dragon as well. Her head is made from sculpting foam and then covered with poly quilt batting before getting a final layer of stretch velvet. Her eyes were purchased on Etsy. The body of the dragon is soft and stuffed with poly fiber fill. She wears a harness which is clipped to a strap around my body. Her hand has a small alligator clip that clips to the strap and helps hold her up. Her tail is likewise clipped to the back of my skirt. Edited to add more project details.
