Kansas has a new “technology” fee they’re adding on to the regular $20 fee to be paid quarterly. It’s $10 and so it’ll be $30 now every 3 months.

This is from Kansas Senate Bill 487. It basically says registered offenders must pay an additional $10 “technology fee.” It takes effect on July 1, 2026.

When I read the Bill, I couldn’t fully understand the purpose, so here’s what Google said:

The technology surcharge goes into a dedicated Offender Registration Technology Fund managed by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. The proceeds are used to develop, procure, and maintain a new, centralized statewide offender registration system designed to improve real-time tracking and information sharing between law enforcement agencies.
