A little update on The Almora Circle

A few days ago, I posted here about starting a small hangout community in Almora for people who want to meet new people, make friends and occasionally get together offline.

We're now 13 people in the community, which is honestly more than I expected when we started.

The idea is still pretty simple. No formal organisation or anything complicated. Just a group of people from Almora and nearby areas who are interested in:

Chai/coffee meetups

Casual conversations and making new friends

Exploring cafés and local places

Short walks, hikes or day outings

Photography, food, movies, etc.

Occasionally just meeting up and hanging out

We're also looking at planning our first meetup soon. Kasar Devi is currently my first preference, but the location can be changed based on what works for most people.

If you're from Almora or nearby and this sounds like something you'd enjoy, you're welcome to join. You don't need to know anyone already in the group.

If interested, comment here or DM me, and I'll share the details.

Would be nice to have a few more people before we plan the first meetup. :)

Almora Hangout Community: Looking for People to Meet, Explore & Make Friends

Hi everyone!

I'm thinking of creating a small offline hangout community for people in Almora who want to meet new people, make genuine friends, and explore the town together.

The idea is simple:

Weekend chai or café meetups

Short walks and nature hikes

Exploring local places

Photography, food, and casual conversations

Board games or movie nights if there's enough interest

This is not a dating group or a business/networking event. It's just a friendly community for people who enjoy good company and want to build meaningful local connections.

If you're from Almora (or nearby) and would like to join, drop a comment or send me a DM. If enough people are interested, I'll create a WhatsApp or Telegram group.

Let's build a welcoming community in Almora!

Young man alleges assault by local policeman, shares injury photos, medical report, and says his Instagram videos were restricted in India

A young man from Pithoragarh, Sachin Bhandari, has publicly alleged that he was assaulted by a local policeman named Kamlesh Joshi after questioning him. According to Sachin, the incident escalated into physical violence. To support his claims, he has uploaded multiple videos, photos showing injuries on his body, and what he says is his medical report.

One thing that caught my attention is that some of his Instagram videos are now showing the message that access has been restricted in India following a notice under Section 79(3)(b) of the Information Technology Act, 2000. That only means the content has been restricted based on a legal notice. It does not prove whether the allegations are true or false.

At the same time, visible injuries and a medical report also do not, by themselves, establish who caused those injuries. That is exactly why an impartial investigation is necessary.

If the allegations are false, the investigation should clear the accused officer's name. But if they are true, then this is a very serious matter. Police officers are entrusted with protecting citizens, not intimidating or assaulting them. Abuse of authority damages public trust and weakens confidence in the rule of law.

No one should be above accountability, whether an ordinary citizen or someone in uniform.

Has anyone from Pithoragarh or Uttarakhand been following this case? Has the police issued any official statement or announced an inquiry? If there are verified updates from either side, please share them so everyone can have a fact-based discussion rather than relying on rumours.

Anyone else feel Almora needs a community for like-minded people?

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I'll give it a try.

Does anyone else feel like Almora doesn't really have a space where people can just connect? I mean people who are into building things, tech, business, investing, books, trekking, photography or even just having good conversations.

Most local groups eventually become just good morning messages or politics.

I was thinking of making a small community for people from Almora (and nearby places) who actually want to meet like-minded people. Nothing fancy, no paid stuff, just a place to share ideas, learn from each other and maybe do an occasional meetup if enough people are interested.

Am I the only one who feels this is missing, or would anyone actually join something like this?
