EJ Crowell’s Limited Usage

Lots of discussion recently about why EJ isn’t getting 15-20 carries per game.

There are several reasons: Crowded RB room; Trust and lack of experience among them. Another is DeBoer/Grubb purposely limited EJ’s carries until we got to the thick of the schedule. We’re there now. Why? New guys have never had to practice as much, get hit as hard, play in as many games or play a sport for as long in a single season as they will in their Freshman year.

There’s a thing called hitting the Freshman Wall where mental and physical fatigue sets-in and then they’re done. Like running a marathon, it’s a real thing. Everybody is fatigued at the 20 mile mark. In EJ case, he is supposed to be in high school this season.

By limiting his carries early, DeBoer/Grubb are pushing his freshman wall out as FAR as they possibly can. They know they need him for the critical games, including the CFP. Smart move, imo.

Suspension Issue & Question

Would like a softer ride. I feel every small bump on my 2019 Tundra XP Crewmax 4x4 and would appreciate a slightly softer highway ride. The truck handles great although bumps and rough roads are harsh.

QUESTION
Would changing the rear shocks (only) from Bikstein 5160’s to Eibach 2R’s provide a safer highway ride without adversely affecting the handling?

Currently, my suspension set-up is as follows:

SUSPENSION
Bilstein 6112 Strut & Springs (front)
Bilstein 5160 Reservoir Shocks (rear)
OEM TRD Rear Sway Bar
OEM TRD Front Sway Bar
Nitro Ridge Grappler Tires 275/65R/18

Suspension Issue

Hey guys, need your knowledge and experience to solve an issue. I have two suspension issues/questions with my 2019 Crewmax and am looking for solid advice and direction from experienced owners.

Currently, my set-up is as follows:

SUSPENSION
Bilstein 6112 Shocks (front)
Bilstein 5160 Reservoir Shocks (rear)
OEM TRD Rear Sway Bar
OEM TRD Front Sway bar
Nitro Ridge Grapplers Tires 275/65R/18

DRIVING STYLE
Most of my driving is highway, although I do drive on an occasional dirt road or log road during hunting season.

ISSUES

  1. I’m looking for a smoother ride. Currently, the ride is ridgid, sometimes jarring. I feel every bump on the highway.

  2. I cross over a bumpy bridge everyday and the truck bed (unloaded) rapidly bounces up-and-down to the point where I have to touch the brakes to significantly reduce speed below the limit.

I’m seeking to diagnose the problem and evaluate recommendations from knowledgeable and experienced owners to improve the overall ride.

Thanks, in advance.
