Alabama named one of eight teams to watch for the 2027 Women's College World Series by Softball America

The Tide had a disappointing exit from the 2026 Women’s College World Series. Nevertheless, Alabama had a pretty young roster that gained valuable experience in Oklahoma City. SEC Pitcher of the Year Jocelyn Briski, rising sophomores Vic Moten and Kaitlyn Pallozzi, are all scheduled to return to carry most of the innings.

Alabama does graduate the bats of Marlie Giles, Alexis Pupillo and Kristen White. However, rising sophomores Ana Roman, Ambrey Taylor, and Gerritt Griggs could take on more of the offensive production.

Alabama also has five-star catcher Torynn Slaughter coming in. The Tide adding a veteran catcher and outfielder for depth, at the very least, would make sense as portal additions.

What Labaron Philon told Amari Allen before his return to Alabama: “You go back, you develop more in your game and you learn more from coach Oats. You play with great players again, and you end up with a higher chance of being picked in the lottery and being in the green room.”

What is your record prediction for Bama this season?

This year’s Bama is tricky to determine. With how unproven the team is on the offensive side of the ball, it could be elite or disastrous, especially if the run game doesn’t improve. Heck, will someone with experience named Ryan Williams get back to form? Our schedule is manageable but middle-heavy, however even the “easier” games aren’t gimmes anymore. Personally, I think the ceiling is 12-0 (there isn’t a single team on the schedule that Bama can’t beat if it all gels) while the floor is 9-3. Realistically, I say 10-2. A few games that make me admittedly nervous:

Kentucky: Yes, it’s Kentucky but this has trap game written all over it. On the road and will be Bama’s TRUE first test.

Georgia: Will be elite as long as Kirby is there. Last two regular season games have been extremely close with one of them being a blown 28-0 lead. After the SEC title game, has Kirby figured it out?

LSU: say what you want about Lane, he will have that team ready to play and that roster is LOADED, not to mention LSU’s stadium will be rocking.

Final Verdict: 10-2 with losses to Georgia and LSU.

Who is the Greatest Alabama Football Player by Jersey Number?

I decided to start working on a side project for my autographed Alabama card collection (Pic Attached for Inspiration) and would love to get some “wisdom of the crowd” on who is the greatest Alabama football player for each jersey number #1-#99.

Modern players get a slight nod due mainly to availability, but would love to have 40s+ mixed in as well (Shout out to Harry Gilmer). I started off with compiling several online ranking lists and personal thoughts to get started.

Feel free to validate list or throw out a player nomination, especially for those #'s with no current named players! Thanks and RTR!!
