I love PT Cruisers. Never owned one. Should I buy one?

I have loved PT Cruisers ever since I had one as my starter car on Gran Turismo 3 when I was about 10. Everyone who finds out it’s my favourite car immediately dunks on it so I am always defending them. I think they are beautiful and unique looking, I particularly like the purple ones.

I’m now 34 and have some savings and realised as I’m an adult I can buy one if I really wanted to. And I’m very tempted. I’d only use it for short journeys, I just want to enjoy owning one (and drive around playing Buck Rogers full blast, iykyk).

I’m based in the UK and there are usually a handful for sale on Autotrader. However I know they are all old and they generally have a bad rep. So if I’m really going to do this, I know I have to do my research. And where better to ask for advice than here?

So if you were going to buy a PT Cruiser for the first time, what are the main things to be aware of?

What should I be keeping an eye out for as positive/negative on online listings? What in particular should I inspect/test if I go and view one? What would be advisable to fix up once I get one?

Any advice appreciated, please help a gal fulfil her dream 🙏

Three nights in & I can't get past 1hr, feeling frustrated and need advice/encouragement :(

First night of trying it, I was so frustrated I started crying (and I rarely cry). Have tried it for an additional two nights. Can't get past an hour's useage and for most of that time I'm not even asleep.

I was diagnosed recently with obstructive sleep apnea (moderate, 19 eph) and last week picked up my CPAP machine, the ResMed Air11, and the AirFit F40 mask. I'm a female, in my 30s, not overweight. My dad also has sleep apnea so seems to be something I've inherited (both me and my dad also have ADHD, he's really passed on the best of his genetics to me). I'm in the UK.

I feel like it takes me a while to settle while wearing it; to get comfortable, to feel like my mask is on properly (even though when I test the mask seal it says it's good). My face feels squashed but if I loosen the straps it feels like the mask isn't tight enough. I feel very aware of the air on my face and worry that each small movement might dislodge my mask.

When I have eventually began to drop off, I've soon woken up again due to the machine. I can't fully pinpoint it but I think it is to do with the pressure changing. When I start off it's always on 4, but on one of these dropping off then waking up occasions, I looked and it was on 11. Is it going too high too early, like it thinks I'm fully asleep and ramps up the pressure to help but instead it just disrupts me because I'm not asleep enough yet? I am really unsure what's happening here. Also when the pressure is higher I can feel air on my face from the mask, which makes me think it is not fitting correctly, even when I've tested it and it says it is.

Also ocassionally it feels like my breathing is staggered, like instead of a clean inhale and exhale, it will almost shudder/gasp in small intervals, I don't know how else to describe it but this is clearly related to the machine as this doesn't happen normally.

In short, I'm struggling to pinpoint the problem so naturally I don't know how to find the solution. I feel like I don't know enough about how this all works to really get to the bottom of it, or maybe I need to just get used to it and keep persevering. I'm honestly just at a loss at this point.

I can breathe through my nose, but my body will automatically default to breathing through my mouth, especially at night (hence I snore really bad). I'm wondering if I've got the wrong mask and I should be trying the F20? Someone in my group session asked for that one because they can't breathe through their nose at all and need surgery. I figured that sounded much more severe than my situation, so I stuck with the F40 but now I'm wondering if that was the wrong approach.

I will say that I haven't been going to bed particularly early so I will try to do better on that front tonight, but I feel like regardless of time, once I get to an hour of trying and failing to get comfortable and drop off, I just feel so fed up.

As an aside, we were introduced to our machines via an in-person group session which frankly I did not find helpful. The lady talking us through it was so slow, she repeated everything she said about three times and talked to us in such basic terms, it felt so infantile. For eg she said not to take it with us on holiday if we were going somewhere without electricity, like camping, repeated it at least two more times and then went round the room asking each person if they would take it with them if they went camping, obviously we all said no. Then when we tried out the machine & mask at the end, she put on 'relaxing' music & sounds on her phone which just felt patronising. I really don't feel like the session gave us much useful or practical information, or guidance around getting used to wearing the mask, pressure levels, etc. So if I sound uninformed about basic things, I probably am!!
