This is the reason why Save Me is the a7x masterpiece.
It could have been the last track that a7x ever released. We didnt even know if they ever were even play another show when nightmare came out. save me was the capstone of all of their years of creating and crafting the “avenged” sound.
It officially marked the end of the Revs musical legacy. It served as a fitting response to “Fiction” where the Revs last words were “I hope you find your own way, when I’m not with you.” (Okay technically his last word on the album is “skull” but that doesn’t count - idiot. I’m telling you to shut up proactively). And their response to Jimmys line in Fiction was like “dude how the hell am I supposed to find my own way? I’m trapped in a vile vile world , I lost faith in God, I have no answers to why you left us, and the only place I’m headed is towards death. So Rev, how about call up the Reaper. Save Me from my personal hell, there is nowhere left to go.”
A masterful confluence of waking the fallen, city of evil, self titled, and nightmare. It captured the signature large open epic sound of avenged sevenfold. The musical arrangement takes you on a journey of highs and lows, and the pause before the chorus sets up the best drop in all of rock / metal / and probably in all of music (fuck the drop in Magic, some serial-killer rock/ garbage-man metal bullshit.)
And then on top of all of that it’s a legit highway thrasher, if you haven’t driven down the highway, windows down, blasting Save Me, you are dead to me. You can go listen to Brompton Cock in your Toyota on 03 volume.
