Check In Delays

So check in is at 4pm, it's almost 5pm and I'm told my room isn't ready because Diamond Reserve members don't leave until 4pm. How is this a thing?! I get the room takes awhile to clean, especially at a Homewood Suites, but who thought this was a good idea?! At least leave an hour between check in and check out....

After driving for hours all I wanted was to check in and relax. Now I'm sitting in a lobby with my four year old with no estimate on when the room will be ready. Super disappointing.

Can someone help me understand?!

This is the second time I've stayed in this particular Hotel and had a horrible experience. I've stayed here many times before, and it wasn't so bad; not the fanciest, but completely acceptable. Last time was so bad I swore I wouldn't come back, but it's the closest one to my office, and after almost a year, I decided to give it another chance. Clearly, the hotel is in dire need of renovation, and I don't fully blame the staff, but tell me why there are eight pillows in this room, and seven of them are dirty.

Is it the washing machine? Am I just being too picky? I think they really need all-new bed linens, because these are clearly very old, and maybe they don't get completely clean anymore?!

It's also now the second time it's felt like they didn't even replace the sheets between guests; they just made the bed. The sheets are wrinkly and look slept in.

The rest of the room wasn't much better. I found a dead bug on the floor. The hotel is in desperate need of good plumbing, as the toilets make way too much noise, and the minifridge smells like something was left to rot there and they just threw it out without cleaning or letting it air out.

I pretty much exclusively sleep in Hilton Hotels and rarely have this sort of experience, so it's always shocking to me when I do. This is a hotel out in Long Island, NY.
